Goodness there are so many of these around. There's the "true SMPs" with medical school classes and various medical science/biomedical sciences graduate level Pre-Med programs popping up all over.

Does anybody have any inside knowledge about any new true SMP or SMP like programs opening soon? The west coast doesn't have any.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the future. With all of these coming up, I wonder how common an SMP/SMP year will be. Pretty soon alumni of these programs that make it to medical school will sit on adcoms, etc.

Since the Georgetown SMP (the first one?) this has been an interesting phenomenon.

Do a little searching and you'll find a very recent conversation in a very convenient thread about a west coast SMP. Hint: it's not UCLA.

Dude. Gtown's SMP started in 1975. In 36 years you've got SMP grads who've retired by now. You can probably find a Gtown grad who's the dean of admissions somewhere by now.

At EVMS there seems to be a really high percentage of SMP grads. One night at the free clinic last year, in addition to the EVMS SMP grads, we had Drexel, Cincinnati, Gtown and Tufts SMP grads. I'd estimate it's 1 in 6.

I am attending Touro-CA's SMP (Master of Medical Health Science) program this fall. If you are interested in Osteopathic Medicine, this is a cool program where you take classes with the first year Medical Students, and have a chance to do research, and it even has an MCAT prep bundled in. It's a one year program, where you get a master's degree, and a guaranteed interview at TuCOM-CA if you maintain above a 3.0.

Its located in Vallejo, CA.
