I just want some quick and painless answers

here's my stats

major: bioengineering

cgpa: ~2.7

sgpa: 3.0 A's and C's

MCAT: 36P

EC:s fraternities. a bunch of volunteer work. worked at a hiv clinic for three years. blah blah.

where can i do an SMP (location does not matter to me)? or do i have to take more undergrad credits to raise my gpa above 3.0

EVMS has a 2.75 minimum, and that's pretty much the lowest among the "good" programs. You can always find a program that will take your money though.

The problem is that it doesn't matter what SMP you go to, your undergrad GPA is the topline item on your med school app.

I strongly, very strongly recommend getting your undergrad GPA up over 3.0 before you spend the big money on an SMP. Against a 36 you might get some consideration at public schools with a 3.0.

Best of luck to you.

Tufts MBS doesnt have a gpa cutoff, and i know of a couple people sub 3.0 who've gotten in.

But I agree with DrMidlife, if you can improve your undergrad GPA with random coursework and show some resemblance of an upward trend in your grades, the 36 will help you quite a bit.

thanks for the advice. really appreciate it. i thought all was lost in undergrad and didnt really have any direction or goals toward medical school. my pre health advisor pretty much blew me off too so thanks for the info.

I actually have the same question for you guys. Thanks for this response. Does it matter if I take classes that pertain to my degree (bio/sociology) for my post bac?

Some SMPs like the one I'm at don't have set GPA cut-offs, though a sub-3 GPA will make it harder to get in.

In finished undergrad with approximately the same gpa as you & brought it up to around 3.11 after about 2.5 yrs of part-time study.

Consider DO. You can reform your GPA a lot faster. You could potentially have youself a competitive DO GPA after 1 year - contrast that with 2.5 years of study just to get into a SMP (which themselves last at least 1 year).
