hey guys what's up, i am about to take the DAT on the 31st of this month. i have been mainly studying using kaplan's online resources which includes 6 practice tests. during these tests, i've noticed that when i run out of time at the end of a particular section, a small window pops up saying that i have run out of time. i have also noticed that if i do not press OK on that little screen, i can rest as much as i want before going on to the next section.

my question is, would i be able to do this on the actual DAT? or will my time in the next section start automatically. is kaplan's setup flawed? i would love to take a few minutes and stretch and gear myself for the next section...

thanks in advance

On the real thing, it goes to the next section automatically. So no sneakin around 🙂

thanks rippinitez.

You're still allowed to get up at any time to do whatever. Just remember the clock is still ticking. If you finish early, don't click ok to start the next section. You'll have whatever time is left on the current section to mess around 😛

Actually, on my test those windows did pop up at the end of each section. You had to press OK to go to the next one. I did sneak a couple of 30 second breaks in there 😛
Also I got windows popped up saying I had 15, then 5 minutes left, where I had to click OK twice to keep answering.

I think the clock does start counting down on the instructions screen. At least it has for me during the practice tests. If you already know the instructions (from practice tests), then you can skip over that screen anyway.

I have a different question about the timing... I've done one of the Kaplan online practice tests but, when I finished and reviewed my incomplete questions for a section, I would click "next" and it'd kick me to the next section (I'm assuming if it was at the last incomplete question). Does anyone know if this happens on the real DAT? I've been using Crack the DAT PAT too and after I review my incomplete/marked questions, it takes me back to the summary page (with the list of completed/incomplete/marked questions). I hope this is really what happens on the DAT. When I did that Kaplan test, I was surprised to suddenly have to start PAT right after I reviewed my science questions even though there was time left. On the real thing, I don't want to review my marked questions and then have the computer automatically make me start the next section when I'm done reviewing if there's still time left!

The windows popped up for me too, and if you don't click OK right away, you do get a little break.

As for quillow's question, after reviewing your answers, the real DAT will send you back to the summary screen. You have to click "end" and then confirm a popup window before you start the next section.
