theres 6 inches outside and still coming down, and i have an interview at 9 am!! what do i do?? do people cancel on such days? Is the office even open??

Try to get there if it's not dangerous. They're generally pretty understanding if you're late, but getting there in six inches of snow shows real commitment. Call if you're going to be late.

Drive really slow. Be carefull when you turn or stop. If they haven't cleared the snow off the road, put chains on if you have them. 6" is managable, and I would only postpone an interview for a real emergency.

Call the school. The switchboard (?) of the main campus should have a recording saying if the school is going to be closed. If you are staying in the dorms i am pretty sure that other students know. If not then try to get a hold of someone from the SOM asap.

I guess this is a little late, since it's 11 am EST, but are you talking about Columbia P&S? CU undergrad doens't close unless there is a HUGE snow storm (like 15 inches or more) and uptown is rarely closed as well. Subways always run in snowy conditions anyway so it's rarely a problem to move between destinations in manhattan. Then again, I'm not sure you're in Manhattan...but 6 inches is generally not enough to cancel anything.

Why did you steal our snow????😡

The stupid weathermen in the D.C. area had us thinking we were getting snow last night. WRONG!!!!!!! We got nothing.🙁

it's always best to take mass transit in snowy weather. it's safer, and most times faster, and you dont have to worry about having to park your car between huge snowdrifts.

i dont think ANY new york school closes in the snow.. EVER. its happened once in my life, during that blizzard in 96. otherwise we had to make our own snow days.
but god bless those subways!

in my 4 years, columbia has closed two or three times, and would have closed other times but the storms were either over weekends or during holiday breaks...
