Pretty sure I just failed my first Calc 3 midterm and my gpa at UW is only 3.0 after two quarters. If I fail calculus, that greatly shortens the list of majors that would be available to me. I have a chem midterm tomorrow which I am fairly certain I am going to rock. And I thought only taking two classes this quarter would make it easier, silly me...

unless you're engineering major why would you want to take calc 3.

another uninformed pre med bites the dust.

why major in anything that requires calc?

major in anything that you enjoy AND can make As...

yeah, most majors do not require calc 3.

I am taking calc 3 because it's actually something I can get an A in, heh. It's not needed for med school though. Most only require one semester of calc. I think I've run across one that strongly suggested 2.

However, my backup plan is heading back into engineering, so my physics classes are w/calc and calc 3 is mandatory for my backup plan.

Are you an engineering major?

lol, i'm a math pre-med major🙂😀🙂 go math!🙂

My biochemistry major required up to calculus 3. Actually, you had a choice between calculus 3 and some other class.

Ahh I know what you mean. I'm taking the second half of multivariable right now and did horrible on my first midterm. (also did terrible on differential equations midterm)
But I am just going to stick to it, because I'd rather major in chemistry than biology.

Because it's fun!

Hey EulerianCircuit, i checked out your mdapplicants profile, how did you manage a 4.0 with upper division mathematics; real analysis and complex analysis are craaaaaaaaazy, //edit: AND YOUR 19! genius 🙂

what was your emphasis in mathematics during your undergrad?

kudos on the good work tho!🙂

Thanks, I've gone to small schools, and they didn't have degrees with an emphasis. I ended up taking a lot of applied stuff (modeling, SQA, numerical analysis, etc.) because that was what was offered and fit my schedule. I would have preferred more abstract stuff, but that's the downside to small schools.

I'm taking pre calculus and struggling a little, can't imagine people having fun in calc 3, well that's just me 🙂

Calc 3 is pretty fun though, although it is hard.

Wait can someone help me out. I thought 1 year of college math is required (No AP credits for the UC's and some other privates). Is taking three quarters of math and the entire calculus series (not engineering) good or is it too difficult and includes Calc 3? I'll be taking the courses at a UC where I will attend in the Fall.

No idea how the quarter system works, but my calculus classes are 4 credits a piece. Three semesters worth (I-II-III) would total 12 credits, obviously.

All is not lost as long as you bounce back stronger. The good news is you have plenty of time to do that. I have met many people that had a rocky start but made it to medical school with hard work and dedication. If Math is not your thing, find something that you excel in. Remember you do not have to major in one of the hard sciences to go to medical school.
