The angles were ridiculous, but they usually are, I've heard. I thought the biology section was pretty stupid, in that it nearly all the strictly bio questions were easy and all the lab questions were completely random and impossibly hard. Chem was okay. PAT wasn't bad. Carving was great. I actually had time left over to smooth down the edges and everything.

Any other Canadians take the DAT today?
BTW, when do we get marks?

Nobody cares about the canadian dat. No canadian should be accepted to an american dental school if they took the canadian dat. Carving is not a substitute for organic chemistry...

Well then I guess it's a good thing horribly bitter and apparently jealous people aren't the ones running dental schools, isn't it? Please go and re-adjust your anal suppository and stop posting crap on other people's posts. Smooth Operator asked a bio question and you attacked him as well. That's what these boards are for, people communicating with each other and being helpful. Please go and learn some "maturity," or maybe you need to wikipedia that too.

yea I just took it also... biology was hard I found because nothing really came that I studied. It was a bit to general? Chem I found alright.

Carving was sweeet, and the PAT was alright except for the angles...reading was pretty good (except for maybe the 1st passage).

The horribly bitter and jealous people running dental schools are in your country...that's your problem and it needs to stay in canada...not become our problem. Second, if all canadians had to take the american dat...everything is fine.

Oh, and your fellow country man smooth operator...well he had it coming. Then again....you guy's must be used to that sort of thing.

Wow, I've never seen such vehement anti-Canadianism. I grew up in the States so I know better than to take you as a generalization of what the majority of Americans are, which is pretty nice people. Did you get rejected from U of T or Mcgill or something? Anyway, thanks for the laugh. A lot of countries are hated and feared, but seriously, Canada? lol.

i took the DAT today too.. thought bio was awesome (maybe cuz i studied a lot), chem was manageable except for a few qs... reading was bad because the first passage threw me off but overall was ok? I am not sure PAT was HARD...angles and holepunching.ran out of time..carving was easy so that means everyone did well, means that i did bad 🙁

I thought the angles were impossible and there were a few tough hole punching questions. On the other hand, aperture and TFE were easier than I expected. The bio section was wierd. 80% of the questions were super easy then the other 20% were just wierd. Defininetly needed upper division courses to answer some of them. Chem. was alright. I thought the first two reading passages were easy, but the last one was hard. I ran out of time and had to guess on a few.

I wrote the CDAT this morning. I had practiced carving for several months, so I was quite pleased when I saw the form during the exam today. I finished in about twenty minutes and then spent the rest of the time just lightly shaving. I agree that the SNS portion was weird, but I still think it went alright. The PAT was great. It seemed like most of the forms were pretty easy, though the angles on one of the cube counting forms was super strange. I looked back on it once I finished the exam and saw why I was reading it wrong. For a moment it looked like some strange Salvador Dali piece floating off the page at me. RC was good, but the first article was super arduous to read. The last two on Mercury and Pianos were fine though. All in all, I'm inclined to say it went well.

Anyone have an idea as to when the scores are sent out for the CDAT? Should we expect them before Christmas break?

carving - went ok
bio- some toughies
chem -was alright
PAT - went great, finished w/15min left
RC - pretty simple overall, that piano passage was such a treat...

ok, i've got a question for all those ppl that didnt write the DAT at UBC. Did your carving have a notch and flute on one end, 1 saddle, and then a triangle with really short (8mm) flutes at the other?

I think everyone gets the same test. I got that one and I'm in Ontario.

wow, I'm totally shocked someone who is sincere about entering a healthcare profession such as dentistry holds such biased, close-minded opinions.

Note to all: you CAN report innapropriate, rude comments to snn. There is a feature on the posting which allows you to do this. I encourage you all to utilize this feature whenever you come across such postings. These forums are to create a community support system, not to express radical opinions. And surely these forums would be better off without such postings.

Yeah, you'd think. Dentists in general are pretty chilled-out people but I guess he/she/it was having a bad day. 😀 At least let's hope it was a bad day, or I would hate to be their patient. "What, you're Canadian?!" *yanks out molars* "Chinese?! No incisors for you!"

sloken- Yeah, I had the same shape and same test. I really enjoyed that piano passage too. I kind of rushed through the questions but it was a lot better than that first passage about lasers and molecules and stuff. What are we, physicists??

Yakobu- It says on the CDA site we get our scores in 6-8 weeks, so it should either be before Christmas or else during. That'll be a nice way to ruin my Christmas...

Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of applying to canadian dental schools as a back up....I have a better chance of getting into a german medical school.

Ok, maybe the "nobody cares about the canadian dat" did seem anti-canadian; however, my main beef is just the fact that so many dental schools accept the canadian dat. Ok, they'll accept the canadian dat, but not the MCAT? They'll accept the canadian dat, but not...any other foreign dental school standardized test? Again, carving is not a substitute for organic chemistry...the tests differ too much to be judged on the same scale. The whole thing is just some sort of blatant affirmative action/politically correct jesture. So, yeah...I feel like letting off some steam with regard to canadians getting into american dental schools w/o taking the american dat.

Hey, when canadian schools start being more open minded towards the american DAT...I'll lighten up, until then...I'll vent if I feel like it.

toothhead, totally agree! You're halarious!

Its funny whitethunder that I'm a Canadian who only wrote the american dat, yet some of the Canadian schools are accepting my american dat bc they view them as equivalent. Yet some of the american schools had originally told me if I wrote the Canadian dat, they'd only accept the american. Affirmative action...I think not. More like different schools have different policies. And why are you talking about the MCAT? The DAt is nothing like the MCAT so I don't see why you're comparing the acceptance of two COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TESTS?? AND your comment about not accepting any "other foriegn countries standardized test" is probably because of the fact the American and Canadian education systems are SO SIMILAR compared to other countries. Simple explanation really. And if you're still so angry about this all, instead of coming on these forums and attacking us Canadians and venting, shouldn't you be mad at YOUR american schools for accepting our Canadian DAT in the first place?? So why don't you call them up and vent to their admissions...? Aren't they the right people to speak to about this all and who you should be directing your anger at..after all they created these policies, not the Canadians who are applying. But I'm sure the reason you stick to these forums and attack the wrong people is because then you'd have no shot at even an American dental school.

And the "luxury" of applying to canadian schools -- write the Canadian dat and guess what, YOU NOW HAVE THAT LUXURY too! lol.

I finished the DAT at University of Manitoba yesterday for the first time. Overall, it was what I had expected it to be. The carving went very well, and I kid you not, was identical in every regard (save the measurements) to one that I had created for extra practice. The science section was as expected, and made me very pleased to be a zoology major (poor kids without developmental biology 🙁 ). I typically hit mid twenties on my prep materials (consisting of Kaplan/Topscore/IQ/Crack) for the PAT, and the DAT perceptual seemed fairly easy in comparison. Reading comprehension was presented in a similar fashion as to most prep materials. However, I have to say that the third passage was as foreign to me as the first (but straight forward none-the-less 👍).

carving: suprised that i can get it done with 10min spare
biol: few questions are tough
chem: easy
PAT: few questions are tough
RC: easy

hopefully i did better than last year
