So does ASDOH not care about my assisting and volunteering?

In the application, they only ask for dental-related volunteering when it is COMPENSATED. I wasn't paid but I volunteered, assisted and shadowed for over 500 hours.

However, no where on the application does it ask for this. I don't know how to feel about ASDOH. I thought they were all about this!

Also, what about non-dental volunteering? Is that what they care about the most?

Read your application again! 😎

dude are you ****tin me!?

scroll down and you'll see sections in bold[/B] about DENTAL VOLUNTEERING WITHOUT PAY and NONDENTAL VOLUNTEERING

Doesn't ASDOH care about dental community service as opposed to dental assisting and shadowing?

Hmmm...2pac, judging from your last few posts, I'd say you're missing your vocation. I think you'd make a really good ER doctor.

No but I've heard that ASDOH doesn't care about shadowing so much as COMMUNITY SERVICE....

dude read the page...

Volunteer experience in dentistry (for example at a dental office, community health center, IHS clinic, or something similar - do not include observation or shadowing). List any volunteer experience in a dental office or dental laboratory.

List any other, specifically community-service-type, programs in which you have participated (if any). Any (principally non-dental perhaps), activity that is non-compensated and volunteer, other than observation/shadowing, is acceptable.

So in case you didnt get that..the first one says list dental experiences that arent shadowing/obervation, so dental assisting would work. the second is about your non-dental volunteer experience.

What kind of dental community service are you talking about?

besides having experience in dentistry (ex. assisting) they want people who have experience in broad areas of work outside of dentistry. this is because they dont just want to build dentist, but also versatile community leaders.

Okay so assisting would work but where would you put volunteering and shadowing then???

you wouldnt put shadowing anywhere, they dont care for that.

what type of volunteering are you talking about? besides assisting what else is there?

if your referring to dental-related community service like stuff you'd do through ASDA, then you would put it under the last section under community service. but keep in mind what there looking for is broad community service experiences outside of dentistry.

Does that mean they'd appreciate volunteer experience in a community health clinic's medical records? About 140 hours worth? (I know they would, but just how much would they care?)

Well I've assisted for 500 hours in addition to observing and everything.

It sucks for the poor kid who's shadowed only for 100 hours though.

"Why did you participate in the volunteer activities you listed in the Clinical, Volunteer and Community Service section? What did you gain from participating in these activities?
(Please limit your response to 500 words or less. All information provided in this section must be the original work of the applicant and not from another author.)"
-ASDOH secondary

It is important to know that shadowing at your local dentists office and helping out is different than volunteering in a dental clinic.

"Volunteer experience in dentistry (for example at a dental office)"

You got a 24 on RC and you can't even follow directions to fill out an application?
