I am in my fifth year in a 2+4 school and I have failed the same course twice (therapeutics, of course). I havn't received any news yet from the school, but I would assume that I am out. Has anyone had any friends in this situation? What did they do? Is there anything that the credits of 5 semesters worth of passed classes in professional school be applied to? I went into professional school with a 3.6ish with A's in genchem and Ochem, so maybe a chem degree but what could someone even do with that?

You could try to get a PhD in Pharmacology or Pharmaceutics and go into research or manufacturing.

i think you need to check your pharmacy handbook because its school specific.

i know my school is after 3 strikes youre out... some schools allow one D per year and so on.

so check your handbook first before you switch majors

If you've only failed twice, keep up the work and try harder next time. You are 90% of the way through your education, and you more or less only have one year of academic coursework. DO NOT GIVE UP ONE YEAR from the end. After all the money you've sunk in and the time, you are giving up one hell of a good opportunity to make serious $$$ and have a great career. At this point your other options without a degree will either never pay you as much as being a pharmacist, or will require more or at least the same level of effort you put into your pharmD. Trust me, it's VERY difficult to find a job that puts you in the top 5% of income earners and gives you choices about where and how you want to work. You are right on the cusp of being a highly paid professional. Dont throw it away now. You are in a position that almost anyone in the US would take instantly if they were offered it.

I dont know about your school but mine allows failure several times before kicking you out (I think we get 3 times being suspended before being told "dont come back"). Also you may be able to get several D's a year before being put on academic probation (our school allows 2 D's per year to still pass as long as you maintain a 2.0 gpa).

Get a tutor. Talk to student services or academic support services. They are on your side. Somewhere on your campus there is a staff that is being paid to make sure you pass. After you arrange tutoring, talk with professors, talk with upperclassmen (the designated tutors/mentors), proceed with getting a note from a psychiatrist to say that your mental state has been so stressed out etc that passing the class was more or less medically impossible (or whatever).

Everyone has breakdowns from time to time, and if you got into school and handled the first 4 years, you have it within you to pass theraputics. If you can prove to the school that the other times were different, and that you are desperately trying to utilize every resource available (are you??), they should give you another chance, especially if you can get them in the mindframe that extenuating circumstances are involved and that you are struggling hard to tow the line.

Bottom line: Kiss some ass, utilize every resource available to you (document everything), get a doctors note (look at your mental state.. were you psychological healthy when these things happened), and get student services, deans office, or professors that loved you on your side.

You'll be fine. Stuff like this happens to a lot of people every year and they come back and fight through it , and you know what, they maybe end up being better pharmacists in the end due to learning about themselves and how to deal with extraordinary challenges.

wow what kind of pharmacy school is that >_>? 2 Ds and minimum 2.0 GPA to graduate dang.. pharmacy school is getting easier by the minute -.-

If that were the case, I doubt employers would make the same compromise. At least intelligent employers certainly wouldn't make that mistake.

Schools differ - check your student handbook. Creighton is 2 F's and you're out!

Still no word from school... not a suprise as I am sure the administration has been on break too.
If I do have a semester off before attempting this class for a third time (assuming both that they enforce the pre-req to spring semester and let me come back later) I was thinking about staying a full time student anyways.
My favorite class I have taken was an elective called pharmacy informatics.
Is anyone or does anyone know a pharmacy informatics specialist? Is there some kind of minor i could work to that would help me in this feild?
my mind still switches hourly as to what I am going to do... it is even more frusterating that this past semester I got a new advisor who is brand new to the school and i only know him via 2 emails I recieved. He just doesnt seem like the person I want to goto for advice and help in this situation.
