On my secondary app my response to an essay question entitled " Why should we admit you as a student to SIU SOM?" Yeah, I put I would be a great addition to the class of 2010!!! I'm applying for the class of 2009!! I may be slightly ******ed I suppose. Would it be a dumb idea to send a follow-up letter amending my essay answer? I have to send them a mailing anyway for a different matter. Will it be seen as a careless mistake? Or a not-so-important typo. There goes my medical career 😉 Any advice? 😕 😱

You have to be blonde  I would look at that and say, "Yup, better apply next year, you are probably right." Unless you were way better than most applicants.

I don't think it's an important enough mistake to send a follow up letter. You never know, the AdComs might not even be reading close enough to catch your mistake, so no point in pointing it out.

Relax 🙂 We all do something stupid during this application process. Good luck :luck:

that error will make absolutely no difference in your app. process. i put down the wrong name for my LOR writer and thought for sure that adcoms would laugh at me and toss my app. in the trash, meanwhile i've already gotten 4 interview invites. think good thoughts and harness the karma. good luck!

Haha, I did something similar. I wrote in the cover letter to my employer asking for a letter of rec that I would be going to med school fall of 2006 when I'm applying for next year. Sheesh, talk about jinxing yourself.

I wouldn't bother mentioning it because it is more likely that they won't notice either (so don't draw attention to it).

If you get in you should defer a year so you can indeed join the Class of 2010. Then they will see you weren't mistaken at all.
