So I just took AAMC FL #3..

And I got a 34
PS 12
VS 10
BS 12

I have 31 days left until the real test(08/15), do you think this will be enough time to boost it up to 37+? I understand it all depends on hard work, but I'd also like some experiences/results from previous users.

I was a little shocked towards the verbal, it seemed so different from EK 101 or TPRHW
I am following SND2's schedule and so am done with content reviews and doing the last 1/3 of passages, but should I try to incorporate more passages or practice exams?
Also, any tips to improve my verbal?

do know that AAMC 3 is nothing like the current MCAT you'll soon be facing. a 34 is great, but dont be complacent. if you can score a 35+ on AAMC 11, then a 37 on the real deal should be reasonable.

remember, this boner of a cockfest will violate you until you pass out if you become complacent and underestimate it.

The worst thing you can do after taking the first practice is to become overly confident. good luck to you

So which AAMC FL seem to be the most similar to the current MCAT?
Also are they more difficult overall or in terms of specific sections?

AAMC 11 (the last one) is probably the most representative.

it is "more difficult" in that there are more experimental/indirect passages, which are more reflective of the real exam. the earlier AAMCs are almost straight content recall; it isn't rare for people to score 40+ on the earlier AAMCs while ending up with low 30s on the real deal.

once again, a 34 is a great start (many people get mid 20s on AAMC 3), but don't be complacent!

Haha I hope that's not how I was coming off, my goal throughout the whole process was 37+, that's why a 34 made me seek out help to see if this was still possible in the restricted time I have. And I'm kind of glad to hear it's more conceptual/experiment based, most of the q's I had trouble with were recalling specific bio system components or other trivial stuff.
In your opinion, would it serve me better to do as many practice exams/passages I can rather than dedicate time to more content review??

absolutely, positively focus on doing as much passages/full-lengths as you can handle. if you got a 34 on AAMC 3, chances are that your content is pretty much nailed down. of course, you can always do content review alongside your practice passages and exams in order to solidify weak areas and master strengths.

Sounds good, I think the only content review I'll do is go over some PS formulas and listen to some of the audio osmosis tracks(I just recently used them and actually found them entertaining).

Do you have any recommendations for practice exams other than AAMCL FL?
So far the only passages I've done are BR, but are the Kaplan ones helpful too? I've heard varying opinions of them.

Does everyone need to start a thread when they take their first FL? I thought thats what MCAT test date threads are for

My b, went back a couple pages to find the Aug 15 one but couldn't find it. And I wanted a bit more attention to my post to get more advice haha.

Yeah I just took the MCAT yesterday, and I can tell you for a fact that it is overall a bit tougher than all of the AAMCs. Maybe it was taking it for the first time, or the pure stress of actually being in a testing situation, but it seemed quite a bit more difficult. And for me it was extremely difficult to gauge my performance. Guess I'll figure out in a month =P

Would you say in terms of content/trivia or concepts/experimental stuff?
No specifics obviously, but did you feel you needed a good, thorough grasp of physiology to do well?

It's okay, bro. It allows SDN to boast more threads and appear more active than it already is. 😎

👍 I guess we are all guilty of that

Nah, they tore that down. It's Citi Field now.

(Pun on "to Shea," implying Shea Stadium, old stadium for the NY Mets. It was torn down and replaced with Citi Field a couple of years ago.)

....no, not funny? 🙁

Honestly it varies with every MCAT, so I can't really give you an answer. Physiology is one of the topics, and you can very well be tested on it, or not. No one knows =( (at least those of us on SDN)

For PS and BS discretes, honestly, no matter how much you study, there will probably be a few that you may not know, and that's ok! Just practice practice practice my friend. Best of luck!! 👍

I don't wanna start another thread so I'll bump this one.
I need some advice.

PS VR BS Overall
#3 12 10 12 34
#4 12 13 15 40
#5 13 11 13 37

For #5 I got way too distracted and stumped on the verbal.

So considering BS is becoming more conceptual based, should I keep doing content review on weak areas? Some of the only questions on BS I miss are specific physiology ones where I can't get the answer from the passage. Also, verbal is not up to par and I'm about to run out of EK and TPRHV passages, are there other reliable resources for verbal other than exams?
I'm thinking about buying 3 BR CBTs just cause I can tell the more practice exams I take the more acclimated and less nervous I am, but are those CBTs worth it in being comparable to the current test?

Amazing scores... YOU CAN BUY THE AAMC VR SA...

Just keep doing AAMC's and do them under test day conditions.

I went to the library to take my last 5 or so tests and it made a big difference. Treat everything like test day, only drink from the water fountain, bring little snacks etc. Treat your whole morning routine like a test and try to psych yourself out. Then treat test day like just another practice test. I didn't score as high as you, but I don't feel like nerves got to me at all, and scored right at my AAMC average.

I wouldn't get too worried about the difference between a 36-40. The difference between a 11-13 in Verbal can be 2 questions where you are going back and forth between two answers. So some of that is just going to be luck. The number of things I studied for on my test, that weren't on the test, was kind of frustrating in retrospect. But what can you do.

Your in good shape just keep reinforcing things and practicing.

I'm not being overtly confident, I'm acknowledging I have weak spots and trying to eliminate them but also asking advice as to what strategy to take to 'learn' the test best. I see that my verbal scores are way too sporadic so I gotta find a way to get to at least a solid 12+ or I'll be screwed test day if difficult passages come up.
