I am currently a 3rd year at UCSD, Human Biology major, Dance minor. Although, I am seriously considering changing my major to Dance because I LOVE it. Also if I continue as a Human Biology major, I still have quite a few classes to take and I know that I cannot take 3 or 4 science classes a quarter & still do well (I've tried 🙁).
I plan on taking my MCAT's this summer....so my main concern right now is my GPA.
My cumulative GPA as a Human Bio major is a 2.72. I haven't calculated my premed gpa, but it is nowhere near competitive due to balancing extracurriculars with academics. I failed my first quarter of ochem 140A twice before I got a B- in it. I dropped ochem 140C with a 'W' & I am retaking it right now. My bio and physics grades were mostly C's...partially because I didn't allocate enough time to study (b/c I was struggling in ochem) & partially because I lost some of my motivation along the way. I actually like bio too, but perhaps I could have done better if I didn't take it along with physics and ochem.
I've completed most of my premed classes. I just need to take ochem lab, bio lab, & a bio class.
I heard that even if I score really well on my MCAT's medical schools would question the disparity between my score & my gpa, which wouldn't look good either.
I thought about post-bac programs, but I hear that there is still a lot of competition after that.
I guess what I'm at a crossroad of what to do....is it almost pointless to pursue medical school now that I have screwed up so badly?
What if I do bring up my GPA (with the remaining 3 premed classes I have left) in addition to doing a post-bac. & doing well on MCAT's & finishing up my hospital internship & doing research?
I would love to be in the healthcare field...I like patient interaction and I would like to have a career where I am challenged mentally and where I am confronted with new situations daily. That's why I considered becoming a physician in the first place...however, if it doesn't work out...I would like to have some sort of back up plan.
I just feel lost right now 😕

I know the premed classes are there so that you can show how capable and how ready you are for the rigors of medical school.
So, if I continue with my Human bio major & do really well in those classes (since they are still science classes that prepare you for medical school), will that weigh much with the admissions?
Also, my premed advisor told me that taking a post bac program with medical school students will show that you are well-prepared for med school.
