So... I was thinking... we need an FAQ Section!

What do you guys think? We need an FAQ for optometry. I think some great ones to start with would be Ophthamology vs. Optometry vs. Optician (the job descriptions and educational backgrounds... not who is better!). Also, the "What is the average GPA for _____ School of Optometry" could be one. The "What are my chances" threads would also be an excellent choice... I've been on SDN for ~8 months now... and already I'm seeing the same questions asked OVER AND OVER. I can't imagine for everyone who has posted here for a couple of years...I know that when I first started on this forum, it would have been great to see FAQ... CLICK HERE FIRST! Opinions anyone?

That sounds like a really good idea but would you have to have multiple threads for each FAQ? I mean, each new question on this board has a new thread so wouldn't someone have to create a separate thread and differentiate it (i.e. one thread for PCO but another totally separate thread for PCO housing)? So in effect, wouldn't we still have a bunch of smaller threads still? Maybe I'm still pretty new to this message board but that's how it seems to work to me. Unless a moderator would create a new subforum each time?

I was thinking of a sticking thread with the links to multiple threads on various topics that have already been discussed. Check out the FAQ's in the Premedical Forums for an example.

the problem is ... even if we had a FAQ.. you still get the same questions ad nauseum. Although instead of answering them you can just say "read the FAQ".

But yes, after five years on SDN it gets a little old. the "what are my chances" threads are my personal favorite.

now opth i can kind of understand but now we have pharm and even PA. pretty soon its should i get an OD degree or a history MA? whats the salary for each? pros and cons?what tests do i need to take? should i shadow?

I was thinking that we could model it after the Berkeley FAQ that Roseanna created. Each question could have a list of multiple threads that have already addressed that question, as well as a little blurb about it. I would take on the "monumental" task of pointing and clicking my way through SDN's history... but... after finals! 😀
