I had a very rocky undergad experience. Things are better, but I will only have a 3.3 sGPA at the end of this year. With a year of postbaccs and assuming all 3.7-4.0s, I still won't break a 3.50 (but close).

It's kind of devastating.. I really want to apply June 2017. But the thought of working my ass off to be below average is not very motivating.

I did well on diagnostic MCATs and will have to take it Fall of 2016 because that's the only free chunk of time + my Kaplan course will be.

So my question, if I get all As from now (senior year) through next year, will I be okay despite a lower-than-average GPA?

If you do well on the MCAT, you'll be particularly competitive for DO schools, and you final GPA may even be higher for those programs if you have retakes.

83rd+percentile on the MCAT may put you in a decent spot for some appropriately selected MD programs, as well.

Yes. Also depends very heavily on what your final MCAT score is.

Thanks! It's annoying that I have to take the MCAT before retaking courses I did bad in though. 🙁

Finish strong, then get that MCAT under control. Once you have your mcat score and your final gpa, you can start figuring out your next move / where to apply. It is far to early to do that. Stay focused on what you can control and ignore the rest for now.

maybe a high MCAT score can help you out. I have seen plenty high MCATs get in with high 3.4
Of course and I'm confident with two months free time, I will get a good enough MCAT. I'm just not sure if it will be good enough for my GPA lol.

I got in with a 3.4, so its doable. It seriously will depend 100% on the MCAT. Also, with good prep you can do well on MCAT science sections even if you did bad in the actual courses (coming from someone who got a C in chem and actually failed bio 1 lol).

DO is a very reasonable option as long as you get a decent MCAT as well

100% this!

Okay well I guess it's time to start studying and stop worrying. Thanks guys! 🙂

I had a 3.5 cGPA and a 3.3 sGPA, a C in orgo 2, and several W's, and I got into my top choice MD school. I also had a 517. Do well on the MCAT and you'll be fine as long as you have some good stuff in your application and can interview convincingly.
