So is it impossible..

I went to a LAC that is notorious for grade deflation, and I got at least 7 hours of sleep a night.

What is with all the grade-related threads lately?

What is with all the grade-related threads lately?
Final grades are coming out and people are all butthurt.

I'm going to make a calendar so people can keep track of what threads are popular when. URM threads start hitting once people are getting waitlisted, "should I apply DO" threads start coming from the people not getting any MD love in November, grade deflation/top 20 school threads hit every semester around finals, etc etc.

Work smart, not hard. Often when people say that they are studying 5 hours a day, those aren't 5 fully effective, completely focused hours of studying. Find the learning strategies that work best for you, find quiet spaces to really digest information, set up a review schedule that works throughout the semester and not just in the days before an exam, and you'll do just fine.

A professor of mine once put it best: if you're spending more than 3x as much time studying for an exam as you spent in the corresponding classes that are covered on said exam, you're doing it wrong.

Find the learning strategies that work best for you

Best advice ever right there! I think the full statement ought to be: find learning strategies that work best for you and don't waste your time doing what doesn't.

For example, I do NOT learn effectively from a textbook...so the last time I bought a text book was during my first year (I usually asked a friend to photocopy the problem pages for classes that needed book problems). I learn through taking notes on lectures and to beef up my understanding I go to YouTube and find videos/animations/etc that cover the topic I need to know about.

Similarly, I see people sitting for hours and making flashcards while complaining about how flashcards don't work for them....if they don't work then why waste the hours making them? Others can't study unless it's totally silent....then why are these students sitting for hours in a common space staring at the same page in a book and waiting for it to get late enough that others leave?

Thanks, I talked to a head adviser and she told me almost no one has gotten straight As in science majors. :arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh::arghh:
