So many mixed reviews on every o.chem textbook... has anyone here used Wades?

So I'am trying to decide which textbook to read for organic chemistry 2. I'm going to supplement it with" as a second language" by klien. I thought kliens textbook was a little too simple? maybe im wrong, but what do you guys think of Wades textbook? or even the virtual msu organic textbook which is free online, anyone ever used that?

I've used Wade and thought it was pretty good (especially the reaction summaries at the end of each chapter).

I used Wade as a supplement to our assigned book (on recommendation of the professor) and I liked it. I don't remember any details about why I liked it though.

We use Klein, but my professor says if it were up to him, we'd be using Wade. He uses many slides from Wade instead of Kline, so I don't think you can go wrong with either. Kline is golden though. Crystal clear explanations, fantastic exercises throughout each chapter if you have the answer book. Great investment.

I liked Wade. His sumamary of reactions are simple and are a nice supplement to prof. notes

My professor uses Wade. She's said that she prefers a different text but Wade is pretty solid.

Wade is a great textbook, for o chem 2 the "as a second language" is too simple and not detailed enough.

Wade is great EXCEPT his earlier chapters on substitution and elimination. Needed to supplement that chapter with Chad's videos.

I guess the general consensus is wade is pretty good then. Do you guys have any thoughts on the msu virtual textbook as well?

I think Wade is fantastic. My class didn't use it, but I bought it separately and my understanding of the fundamentals was pretty drastically improved by going back through the material using Wade.

Im using Wades and so far I'm liking it compared to my schools text.

Completely agree. Wade is a solid textbook that was fortunately required in all my organic chemistry classes. The explanations on reaction mechanisms, and charting out similar reactions helped me conceptualize and simplify the rather complex subject immensely. Wade and lecture material/HW/practice problems, in conjunction with hands-on exploration in organic chemistry lab, was what helped me succeed in the organic chemistry sequence and enjoyed much long-term benefits (i.e. biochemistry and the like).

Imo, Wade is pretty much a surefire way to success if you can use it optimally. Supplementary sources like Organic Chemistry as a Second Language are good but not required for this reason.

Wade is the freaking best, because it is so damn skimmable. The fundamental stuff you really need to understand comes in handy little idiot-proofed summary boxes that scream "you need to know this bit!!11!". Highly recommend, it's the one text I found equally easy and efficient to study with as lecture notes.

Pretty much!

I never read that ****. I did rewrite the reaction summaries and mechanisms I expected to be tested, though.

A+ book. Would use again. 😛

If only I knew about this textbook last semester, Ive been reading it now for my second semester and man..its so great!
