Absolutely not. What a ridiculous notion that we owe them anything.
By definition that means they weren’t as qualified.
@libertyyne is correct. The idea that we owe them anything is absolutely ridiculous. The only thing we owe them is the 200k+ that we pay them in tuition. That was the agreement. I pay that money and they give me a medical degree. I have zero obligation to them outside of that.

My stats were better than the previous classes, and so was my resume. I already had multiple acceptances. But that is besides the point. The point is that the schools want to fill their classes with the best candidates they can. There is an incentive for schools to not admit anyone who is going to fail classes, or not do well , or cause other issues down the line because 1. they are lazy, it requires a lot of work, 2. Their reputation gets dragged through the mud, 3. It is a lot of money spent finding a candidate and interviewing, lost revenue of an empty seat and lastly scrutiny by accrediting bodies on why their attrition rate is higher than the national average.
Then those people would hardly qualify as being as good as you.

They own your name, and for every single misconduct and/or achievement you may get/receive in the future, it can and will be traced back to them and they will take some credit/discredit for it. They have the sticker "manufactured in xxx" stuck up ur *** so deep you will never be able to remove it lololol.

I think that this is exactly what it means. I am a low level nursing administrator at a large southern health system. Our career page lists "MD ONLY" for anesthesia jobs in one of our outpatient surgery centers. It is meant to convey "NO CRNAs allowed". There are several DO anesthesia attendings there. I know, because I shadowed there. I have also worked ICU with many of the CRNAs at our hospital who would love to work there but can't break in due to the set up.
I am not saying that there is no DO bias in attending groups, but I have never seen it and I have worked in healthcare for 15 years. Our current chairs of both ortho and neurosurg are DOs. Maybe it's a regional thing.

I agree that the MD only probably means physician. Plus job posting is done by HR that have no clue of anything. Your second point tho regarding the chairs leads me to believe that you actually work at a Traditionally Osteopathic Hospital, since there are less than a handful of chairs of neurosurgery that are DO, even at traditionally AOA programs!

That is correct. We have some residents who rotate at some of our sites, but we are not a GME powerhouse by any stretch of the imagination.
And to be fair, in the community, doctors are not exactly scrambling to fill the chair positions at health systems. It usually involves additional, poorly remunerative duties.
My point was to add to the sentiment that after the self-inflicted struggle against DO bias throughout residency and fellowship and academics, nobody cares that you are a DO. I mean, we all should have done better in undergrad/ on the MCAT. Whaddayaexpect?

it’s a business transaction folks. I would have went to a “better” school if I could have and they would have taken a “better” applicant if they could have. It’s not like they took a shot and believed in me or whatever. They wouldn’t have picked me if they could have filled with better people.
maybe I could have understood this mentality back when people graduated with 1/3 the debt I’ll have and teachers actually had to try for you to learn enough to pass boards, but those days are long gone. Now schools do the absolute bare minimum to qualify as a school and the only the thing they consistently do well is raise tuition.

lol getting into medical school and paying them tuition to get a degree is exactly like going to a used car dealership and getting approved for a loan to buy a car from them. Do you owe the used car dealership anything other than the price of the car? I think not.

You owe them for being honest and selling you a car that is exactly how they described it. A car that is not gonna break down within few days leaving you with all the loans and nothing to show for it..

I NEVER EVER once said COMLEX >>>> USMLE. The only thing I ever suggested in the past was that because COMLEX is 72 sec/Q instead of 90 and 400 Qs instead of 280 that it might be a more arduous exam, but the thought never EVER crossed my mind that COMLEX was a better/superior test than USMLE. So don't insinuate things I never said please. Also, I'm merely having a conversation here. I never said that I was 100% right, and I never said the others were 100% wrong either. Everyone is allowed to have different opinions or point of view here, right? Or is that against TOS as well?

And while you owe your school nothing more than tuition, your school owes you nothing more than an adequate education (pass boards) and the ability to become a physician (match SOMEWHERE in SOMETHING).
Of course a DO student will have an uphill climb matching some specialties in certain locations but it is 100% possible. And the vast majority will become physicians. If you don’t match into the specialty or location you like that’s on nobody but yourself and could have been avoided by performing better in undergrad OR during medical school.

So much self-hatred amongst DOs lol. Believe it or not there's actually some of us that wanted to be DOs and like OMM.
I feel like two separate things are being argued here. On one side there are those that say you "owe your school for granting you your degree" and the other side is "I am not paying them anything more, I don't owe them anything".
Of course everyone should be responsible citizens as you're always representing something. Whether that be their medical school, your family, your church, hell, yourself. You always want to be a good person so that reflects well on the things you represent. But, you don't "owe" your school anymore than what is legally contracted: tuition. If you do anything bad outside of that, yes, you "let your school down" by failing, but in reality, they let themselves down, and that sucks more. Sometimes, things are inevitable. But, as long as you always try, I think society sees that, and that reflects well on your school, but mainly, yourself.

And as an OMS-0 I understand I’ll have more barriers to entry with competitive specialties and there’s a possibility I will end up working rural family med. If becoming a lowly FM physician is the biggest shortcoming in my life I think I’ll be alright.
