and the admissions department at OSU hinted that I might be on the wait list. I know, I know, the wait list is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But, it is still depressing because it increases my expenses, decreases my ability to prepare for medical school, and it postpones the wait to find out if I got into my top choice school. I was hoping this part of the process would be over and I could move on to other things, but no such luck. 🙁

Any suggestions for getting off the wait list? I've read around the internet, and there are some good ideas out there that I will use (I'll do almost anything to get into OSU), but who knows what other ideas could be out there.

I totally understand! I was in the very first day of interviews, and through all the horrible weather a couple of weeks ago, I finally got a letter saying that I was put on the wait list. And yeah, I don't care who says it's great, it stinks. Especially when you're paying to hold your spot at other schools. I don't know what to do to get off of it except update my file, and try to do some more shadowing and whatnot. I have heard that the earlier you're on the wait list, the earlier you're off of it. But I don't know how true that is. I guess we can just wait it out.....

Good luck!!

You can send them a letter stating that OSU is your first choice. Update your file if there is anything to add.

As I've said many times before (I'm sure you've read it 😉): about 1/2 of every entering class at OSU spent some amount of time on the waitlist. :luck:

I was talking to my undergraduate premed advisor and I told her waitlisting felt like a "gentle rejection". She convinced me it was an "informal acceptance". I've given up hope so all you can do is to do better next time around. As for getting off the waitlist, there are things you can do...remind them you are interested, letter of intent, and updating your file.

I was planning on doing the letter of intent to the AdCom, the dean, and the professors who interviewed me. Also, I am considering the possibility of contacting my doctor friends to see what they can do or recommend.

Also, I have heard that 1/2 of every class thing from several sources before, and I was thinking about it today. Do you know, conversely, what percentage of those on the wait list end up with an acceptance?

Honestly, I've never heard a # for that. I guess if you can find any source listing the # of waitlists sent out you could figure it out.

I am I the only one that got acceptance from OSUCOM on SDN😱

That is scary😱

No, you're not the only one. I got accepted two days ago. I'm very excited! I love the school. My acceptance might have something to do with me being an OOSer. Sorry, I don't mean to brag or discourage any of you. Good luck to everyone.

Dr. Mom is such a great source of encouragement. She has been coddling all of our whinning about waitlist letters. I was also on the first day of interviews and have been agonizing continuously on what I could do:scared: I have nothing left but to wait. I'm usually a patient person anyway so... It doesn't help!   Thanks Dr. Mom for all of your encouragement. I did send thank you notes to my two interviewers and a thank you letter to the adcom in hopes...😱

BTW - Congrats to those of you accepted! The rest of us hope to join you soon!! 🙂

Tejas, when did you interview??

What are your stats??

I am from OOS too😀

Maybe I should switch to telling you all to suck it up! 😉 :meanie:

I will add, though, that this whole thing is stages of waiting.

wait for secondaries
wait for interview invites
wait for acceptances
wait to start
wait for step 1 scores
wait for step 2 & PE scores
wait for residency interview invites
wait for the match
wait to start again
wait for step 3 scores
wait for inservice exam scores
wait for job interviews
wait for specialty board scores

😀

Woo-hoo, halfway there.

And guys, I know it's hard, but I'm sure most if not all will get in off the waitlist.

so pretty much the general consensus at OSUCOM is if you get waitlisted, its not that bad

You can look at it this way 🙂. You didn't get a denial.😀 That seems to help me in my times of despair.😀

I am from OOS too😀

I interviewed on the 29th of Nov and am from TX. I don't usually make my stats public but I've sent you a PM. Mine are similar to yours.

I have it...The UPS man got lost on his way to my house... That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!:meanie:

Ok, I don't know how true this really is....you know, when you're hearing things through the grapevine, they tend to get a bit exaggerated. But I did hear that OSU adcom decided not to meet this week due to the fact that they had several cancelled interviews during the snow week and they have interviews next week. They are supposed to meet after the interviews, at the end of next week, but they won't be sending anything out until after the first of the year (however they do have a history of leaving us hanging on holiday weeks - I interviewed on the 14th, and we were supposed to hear something before Thanksgiving.....yeah, it didn't happen). I think we should all just enjoy the Christmas holiday...hehe, like that's possible with this looming over our heads!

As for Tejas hearing 2 days ago, that kind of blows this theory out of the water - but I'll choose to believe it, anyway.....it keeps me sane.

Well...I will still believe that the UPS man keeps getting lost!😀 I do feel sorry for the next one driving down my street though, my wife may mug him just to see if there is anything in that truck!!  I think she's worse off than I am. I have accepted that it will be later before (if at all) that I hear anything. I'm confident, but who knows, there are a lot of good candidates that are interviewed. I just want to go to OSU, if I have to re-apply then so be it (PLEASE NO!! I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO RE-APPLY!!:scared: ). We can all hang, we've done so through everything else so far. Just look at DrMom's post. We have to wait for everything so...

Well, it's official, I got my letter today: wait list. And, I got my email receipt for the $1000 I had to send to KCUMB. At least I'm in somewhere, but not where I want to be. 🙁

Now begins the letter writing campaign.

Well if it makes you feel any better jk, I have seen a lot of waitlist letters and very few acceptances. Don't worry!🙂 We will hear something eventually! In telling you that, I'm trying to convince myself also.:meanie:
