...so I have this Rastafarian-esque idiots that aren't really my friends as much as they are unfortunate aquaintences.

Long story short, they start talking about medical marijuana. They say Marinol isn't good enough because a person experiencing nausea can't take a capsule. Fair enough, I suppose. Of course, they could take Zofran injectable, because, you know, it works better, but who am I to destroy their happy hashish fantasy world.

Anyway, this got me thinking. Why isn't there a Marinol nebulizer sol'n? I remember from Med Chem that THC was a rather lipophilic drug, so I suppose formulating an emulsion may present a problem, but it can't be that big of a deal if marijuana water vaporizers exist. Heck, how about a Marinol MDI? This would introduce a new dosage form that would have utility in an amazingly tiny patient population that would allow me to exploit the idiocy of physicians into writing for the soln. You know how docs like new stuff that isn't an improvement over previous editions. Xopenex flies off shelves.

I'll be the hero of about 15 actual sick people and stoners the world over.

I might not be a bad idea if it worked. I remeber seeing that THC is unstable so im not sure if that is a problem. ALso good luck getting it past the FDA. They like to keep their schedule 1 drugs away from the populus

It can obviously survive being burned and inhaled, so while this IS a concern, it shouldn't be that big of one, IMO.

I'd think the DEA would care more. And Marinol is a schedule III.

Marijuana is a schedule 2 in my state. There are still statutes prohibiting distribution and sale, though, so no company is willing to try to market it.

That's because the feds would still come along and arrest you. Federal law > State law.

Legalization of medical MJ is an excuse of many potheads to allow them to grow and get high without legal implications. More often than not, only a small minority of patients would benefit from legalization. Even then, alternative medical treatment may be more efficacious.

Dernit! I can't find the resource, but I remember reading a year or so ago that they were doing clinical trials with MDMA and terminal patients in their last days/hours. The idea being that they wouldn't be in a morphine induced semi-coma during those last precious moments. Personally, I think it was just the glow-stick lobby using their weight.

WVU....You've actually got some good thoughts...I'm here in a state that has some counties which have legally prescribed & distributed marijuana.

THC is awful - doesn't do anything at all. I was a hospital pharmacist at the time my hospital was one of the sites of the clinical trials....it did very poorly. Thus - most folks won't opt for it.

As for the inhaled version....the problem is getting it down the airways sufficiently. Yes....the steroids work...but that is where they're working. So systemic absorption is not the issue & for inhaled steroids is actually an issue you want to avoid.

But...with marijuana...you want the active substance inhaled - it gives better blood levels that way. You'd need to probably predose with albuterol (after all - this is probably a COPD population) & still you'd get erratic blood levels. There is also the issue of other compounds which are suspected to be active in marijuana other than just thc. However, there just isn't the interest nor the money to be made on pursing this by drug companies. First....those inhalers are tremendously expensive. Second...there is just too much political "stuff" surrounding marijuana to have a company invest money. Third....the drug is readily available to anyone who wants it & no company wants to compete with a cheap, readily available, albeit illegal market.

Finally.....state law trumps federal law. Marinol is CII in CA (like Paregoric). Marijuana is CI. You go by the most restrictive law your state has. If federal law is more strict, that is the one you use. However...my state has more restrictive state laws regarding controlled substances ....unless you live in SF....then....almost anything goes.

So...you're thinking is good...I just don't think you have a market. You need to go back to the bouncing house idea!😀

bouncy house is my idea.

I've got another good idea. The wife always complains about the toilet seat being up.

How about we put one of those hydraulic air stopper doohickies they have on stormdoors and put one on a toilet seat. When you lift the seat it latches into place at the top of the bowl with a lever that is built into the flusher that releases the seat to gravity. Then when you flush the toilet, it releases the seat and, thanks to the hydraulic air device, it slowly falls back down to the proper female friendly position without any cohersion from the male.

I just need to convince the world that it should be a standard toilet seat feature.

WVU....I'm worried about you. I don't think you have enough to do!

Are you still on schedule to graduate? - we won't be able to put up with you if you're delayed again😉 .

Does WVU have an election coming up next week (do they get to vote in WVU????) Perhaps you could read the sample ballot....or chop wood for the winter....or hmmm...I don't know - just put down the toilet seat (like every other husband does! ).

You are correct.

Are you still on schedule to graduate? - we won't be able to put up with you if you're delayed again .

Yes. I took the stupid remediation test last week, passed it, and am starting rotations next month.

WVU isn't a state. West Virginia, however, is having an election soon.

I've already decided who I'm voting for.

or chop wood for the winter
I have natural gas...

I don't know - just put down the toilet seat (like every other husband does! ).

Never. It's a bs sexist institution. If I can put it up, you can put it down. Women want equality unless it's the crap they don't want taken away, like men kissing their asses.

There is also Sativex - an English product in Phase III clinical trials. It is a sublingual spray which is a combination of THC & cannabidiol (CBD). It is a soluble extract of the two which is being studied in MS & neuropathic pain.

I'll be interested to see if any of these fly commericially.....we'll see.

They've been studied for about 30 years & still pts like the smoked version - can't discount the associated systems surrounding the whole process of smoking the marijuana itself.

After all...that is the reason many smokers can't quit - its not the nicotine addiction - its replacing the "habit" surrounding the self-medication.

Oh gad - you're right....its WV - how could I have gotten that wrong🙄 ......I just equate you with the state! oops!😳

Now...back to the toilet seat....you are young, so I'll let you go on with your argument - my husband did that as well..for about 15 years. He finally put the seat down. I think the thing that finally did it was our daughter yelling at him...."Daaaadddddyyyyy.....you left the toilet seat up again!!!!" when her friends were over.

Wait until you have kids....with your luck you'll have a whole bunch of girls & will forget how to go standing up (that's what my Dad claimed - he had 3 girls).

But...at least its an easy argument - there is no one right answer....You must have a long suffering wife (we already know she's cute!)😍

Oh....and good job on the test. Have fun with the rotations (& keep your mouth shut for goodness sake!!!!😉 )

😀

Already bought the duct tape.

I have no couth. This wouldn't effect me. In fact, I'd go around putting the seat UP in my spare time the more she complained just in spite. Look before you leap. It isn't that hard

You just wait!!!! Come back & talk to me when your 3 yo can't wait & dunks her little tush in the water, gets her very favorite pants wet & cries like you broke her heart.....you'll put the seat down for her!

You'll feel bad - trust me! There is nothing that will melt your heart more than a 3 yo little girl crying.....even if your wife continues to crab about the toilet seat😀 !

However...if you ever want to keep getting some lovin' on the spur of the moment....PUT THE D*%N seat down....or not! Your choice....kind of like pharmacy school - who won there????

Federal law specifies that drug scheduling is at the discretion of individual states. The feds have no stricter standard with regards to drug scheduling, because there is no national standard.

Who says I'll have kids. I'm gonna work at a nuclear pharmacy and sterilize myself with sweet, sweet radiation.

Not me for sure!!!!😀 But....I do hope you've had this discussion with Mrs. WVU😳 . She may have some other thoughts....she may be thinking lots of little WVU's will be sweet - especially if they have cute pigtails, yelling "Dddaaadddyyyy!"

Have fun!😀

Now there's a scary thought...

I talked to her. She said she doesn't want kids. Her exact words were "Heeeeellll no." I know my parents back in the holler want me to have kids. Her parents up in Philadelphia probably do, too.
