So to be clear, 20/20 vision is required to become a surgeon of any kind?

I shadowed surgeons who wear glasses when doing operations. Also you can wear contacts, or get lasik.

I know surgeons who are 20/20, who wear glasses and who are post-laser correction.

You’re in the clear, OP

No. You don’t need 20/20 vision. I’m a negative 6 in both eyes and I just wear glasses or contacts.

Pretty sure a lot of the top surgeons and surgeons I know wear glasses

Unless you want to be a military pilot, I don’t think 20/20 is required for anything

For pilots in the Navy at least, you can have uncorrected distance visual acuity up to 20/100 as long as it’s correctable to 20/20 and near acuity that is correctable to 20/20. Applicants to flight training must have acuity no less than 20/40 correctable to 20/20 for both distance and near vision.

So even pilots don’t need 20/20 uncorrected vision.

I've spoken with some surgeons who strongly prefer glasses over contacts- they have to wear eye protection for their surgeries anyways, and the glasses are usually more comfortable/fitted than the OR eye protection

Though if you get blood on your nice glasses (vs. the spares with a crooked nose piece), that would probably be a pain...

I can't tell if this is supposed to be a serious question. But, nah bruh. I switch between contacts and glasses depending on whether or not I need to wear loupes. A lot surgeons wear glasses. Cheers.
