So what do you mean Line Counting doesn't work for TFE anymore?

I read some posts that line counting does not work anymore for TFE. Can someone who has taken the test expand on that? Do you mean that all the answer choices all have the same number of lines so it is impossible to narrow down answer choices? I use line counting to eliminate answer choices and with the ones that MAY be correct I try to visualize and get the best answer. However, if line counting can't help me then I'm scared 😱

I assume when people use "line counting"

they go like this from front view, there are 4 lines from the top looking. so you count should count 4 lines in the top view. going from left to right.

that is the best I can think of what that method is. I never used that method.

I guess the use a method that is similar to line counting but I then try to picture what it is.

I will go Solid line then dash, solid then dash again. then I think ok the dash lines tells me there is something hidden in between or at the very back, a trough, hole, etc.

I then use one of the other two views that is available to see what would those dash lines represent

If my method is now no longer working. I'm not sure how they are expecting people to figure it out.

The method I used that is similar to line counting is looking at different lines that distinguish the structures from one another and then go and find them in the structure. If they're not there eliminate that choice.

Line counting won't let you eliminate a lot (or many at all) of the choices, but it helps - and usually while you're doing the line counting, you notice the placement of the dashed lines and such, and that goes a long way towards getting the right answer.

I agree with Vic, it still helps...and you can still count lines using both views. I had a couple of questions that were just line counting...but u had to do it from both views.

Good question. I've been trying to figure out this myself.

Before learning more about how to attack the TFE, I mainly just tried to visualize it. It does work most of the time, but I notice that it is very time consuming. Due to the time constraints of the PAT, I'm scared I won't be able to arrive to the correct answer fast enough.

I was recently introduced in line counting and practiced on some sample problems, and it worked fine. So I was amazed that it would help me arrive to the right answer!

BUT THEN, last night, I was trying out this new line counting method on other problems, and I got so frustrated because it didn't seem to work for more complex ones! 🙁

So, now I'm conflicted.. in terms of what approach to use and to stick to.
Currently, I'm switching between visualizing and the line counting, whenever applicable.

If anyone has any tips to share for TFE, that would be great! 🙂
