Everyone around me is going over seas for medical school. This semester 3 of my best friends left for Antigua. They all said that it would save them time since they don't want a competitive residency anyway and their parents can afford to pay for it. So why not?

Well if the current trend continues (Increase US medical school admission and Constant # Residency Slot). It is becoming very hard to enter even the least desirable in the US by FMG. So they are destroying their chance of working in the US. (maybe their parents dont like them and sent them away to get rid of them lol)

Because, depending on the school, there can be up to a 60% chance they won't get into ANY US residency. $160,000+ later... 😱

Oh, and who could say such a thing without proof? http://www.nrmp.org/data/index.html click the first hyperlink under match data. Scan to page 12 in the document. Look at the line graph and see that just over 47% of US citizen FMGs (foreign medical graduates, which includes the Caribbean) matched. If you can't convince your friends, at least you can convince yourself.

That's why. 😎
