I'm sure I'm not the only person who's making plans of what to do if not admitted this cycle. I have already decided I'm not going to do a post-bacc program or a master's in some scientific field. I think I might would reapply, but it really depends on where I'd be a year from now.

Here's what I'm doing:

Started looking at federal law enforcement employment opportunities. Namely, the FBI and Secret Service. I meet the quals for the SS but the FBI is pretty picky. I may submit the SS app if next May rolls around andI haven't heard anything yet.

I'm looking at the FBI, but to get in as a special agent I'd need a degree from a law school. I walk by one every day I go to class, so I'm looking at what I'd need to do to be admitted to the law school year. I'd shoot to get my JD in 2.5 years and apply as a special agent to the FBI.

Of course, hopefully none of this will matter 😀 If the above doesn't happen then I would probably reapply. I do want to be a doc, but I really can't put my fiancee through the torture of taking years to get there.

So what are you guys planning?

My contengancy plan is to stay at my undergrad school and do an informal post bacc. After I graduate (with a BS in cell bio), I'll literally be 4 science classes (and that's it) away from getting a BS in genetics too. So I'd stick around, take the extra classes, and keep working on my "upward trend," and then reapply. I might retake the MCAT, but it's hard to say now as the scores aren't up yet.

It's funny, I recently stated putting together my AACOM's file and while doing so realized it might be a good idea to firm up that contengancy plan...

Nothing like staring your application in the face to shake your confidence.

PS: JKD, when you say "this application cycle" do you mean the one ending now or the one beginning in June?

I'll probably persue a masters in biomedical engineering and make new toys for you guys who get in. 😀 Every doctor loves cool new toys. I recently saw a machine about the size of 2 shoe boxes that gave an impressive amount of cardiac information. Patients don't have to go to the hospital for these tests anymore, all done in the office.

JKDMed,

If they ask you in an interview what will you do if you dont get accepted, reply by saying "If i dont get accepted, i plan to improve my stats and reapply again next year."

They sometimes ask this question to test your motivation even if they know they are going to accept you.

That would be a very interesting job to have. Do they get paid a decent amount to be a special agent? I just wouldn't want to be told where I am giong to live for the rest of my career.

They start out around $40k per year and can end up at around $60k-$70k. Not doc salary by any means, but you'll always have a nice home and food on the table.

The work is pretty cool though and the benefits are very nice. 👍

I am going to reapply one more time and than its LSAT time baby.

Always had an interest in law and since my BS is in Molecular Genetics, patent law would be my specialty.

I don't know why JKD, but you seem like you would make a great military officer.

Anyways, good luck in your endeavors.

Thanks 🙂 That's still definitely an option, and probably the most likely alternative to medicine.

Finish my senior year and reapply :/
