Another cliche question, but it's on all of our minds:

Some schools take longer than others to send out interview invitations. We all know that. But how long should we wait? How patient should we be?

Unfortunately, on the *long* "Interview" thread, the dates of SDNers interviews are not listed, so it's hard to tell if these interviews have already occurred or if they are in the future. It seems as if Tufts, VCU and UPenn (the schools I'm waiting on) are much later than others. it seems...

Can anyone lend me any quick insight on the schools in which I applied?

And for others' sakes, maybe list a quick blurb on your understanding of schools' reaction time.

-----
for me...
Maryland, UConn, NOVA: once my (unofficial) DATs were received sept 5th, online secondary app password/interview notice received by email one week after, interview scheduled nov 8th, oct 14th, jan 4th.
-----

It's weird because at some of those schools I'm one of the earlier to interview even with my late DAT and others, I received a really late interview date. Even the alt list for Case!

(Please, no one get me wrong, I'm very honored to receive the interviews that I have)

A future thank you to all, I really appreciate anyone's input,

Julie.

hey do u go to umd college park cuz i do!!

oh, good going on the DAT!!

I haven't heard anything from VCU yet either, so you're not alone. Really it doesn't seem like you should worry because noone is getting in before Dec 5, so why does it matter when your interview date is, as long as its during the fall. I could be wrong, I really don't know how the whole admissions thing works, but it just seems that it shouldnt matter before Dec. Good luck with your interviews and maybe I'll see you at VCU.

One of my close friend have an interview with VCU on Nov 10th. Goodluck to him.

Something isn't right, I cant believe you havent been invited for interview at VCU, I know about 8 people who have already completed their interviews at vcu, but most of them have stats much lower than yours.

I am applying a year early and won't have my degree by the time I start dental school if I were accepted this year, so maybe thats the problem. Would it be a good idea to call the admissions office and ask them about the status of my application?

That might be the reason, I know Dr. Healy wants all the incoming class to have their degrees by then. It woundn't hurt to call and ask about your status, but IMHO, you'll need to have a degree in order to get accepted. Good luck

Penn started interviewing on Sept. 23rd and by that time the number of applications were well above 500. They also interview well into March and are a bit conservative with the number of acceptances handed out - so a 'late' interivew from Penn should not be construed as being bad (i.e. they don't try to fill up the class on December 1st). You have some good numbers - hang in there as I am confident that Penn will get around to sending you an interview invite. 👍

Hmm, thats frustrating. I applied this year because VCU's website says they will accept students after their 3rd year (90 credit hours). I wonder why they would say they accept people early if they really won't consider you without a degree?

Hi, on which day of the week does UPenn interview and how many are usually invited per interview slot? Thanks!

It is all the applicant pool, they have to choose from. They're getting applicants with degrees and great stats, so your chances of getting in without a degree is greatly diminished. By the way starting with next year's class biochemistry is going to become a requirement for admission consideration. If you don't believe me call Dr. Healy himself or Sharon.

Oh I'm not questioning what you're saying, you go to VCU and I'm sure you know what you're talking about, I was just a little disappointed to hear it. And thanks for the heads up about biochem, it seems like alot of schools are starting to require it now.

Actually, this isn't exactly true. If I recall correctly, some schools jumped the gun a little and some SDN'ers were getting acceptances as early as November 29th! Just thought you might want to know!

By the way, definitely call Dr. Healy, let him know how much you want to go to VCU. You want him to know you by your name, if you have time you should schedule a one on one meeting with him. He's very nice man, and will be more than happy to talk to you. Play the politics, he has a lot, and I mean a lottttttt of power in deciding who to admitt or deny.
I hope you get in.

Thanks for all the advice Blackstars and best of luck to you as well. Also, my apologies to TERPDDS for hijacking the thread.

How is that possible??? I was under the impression that schools were NOT allowed to notify acceptance until Dec 1???

Quote AADSAS FAQ
"Most U.S. and Canadian dental schools adhere to ADEA guidelines regarding the timing of offers of admission. Admission offers can be extended, starting December 1 for the following year's entering class. Individuals accepted in December have 45 days to accept or decline an offer of admission; those accepted in January have 30 days; those accepted February 1-July 15 have 15 days; and those accepted after July 15 can be asked for an immediate respons"

Penn interviews on Thursdays and Fridays. The groups are usually around 10 people and the interviews themselves are one-on-one with a faculty member (most are interviewed by Dr. DeRossi, the Dean of Admissions - don't worry, he is very relaxed and is not out to snare interviewees).

Oh, some do jump the gun (and that's not always a bad thing!). NOVA sent me my acceptance letter around November 24th or 25th of last year.
