Last year's orientation at Michigan State University:
Day one Register, White Coat Ceremony (though I know there are a lot of schools that don't do this), a pretty good lunch at the horticultural gardens, lots and lots of talks one of which is by Dr. Ames who is the COOLEST large animal vet in the nation (and he's an MSU Clinician 😀). Basically an introduction with information on learning resources and other available services. There's also an activities fair with student clubs and free stuff. We got really cool backpacks from Hills.
Day two Go over the results of your personality assessments in the morning, this is pretty boring but it's not too bad. Then there were team-building exercises at the school, though this year they're going to some camp thing for them. Believe me, you will get to know a select few of your classmates very well. One of the exercises had my best friend feeling like 2 guys should have bought her dinner first. There's a bbq this year, which I don't think we got last year either.
Day three meet university physician's office people. They tell you about vaccines and such...which reminds me I still need my rabies shot. Then you get to meet the faculty for your first semester of classes, there's more general information meetings, then a few clubs (Omega Tau Sigma, SCAVMA) tell you why you should join, and then there's a picnic where you eat yummy food and meet your big sib.
Overall it was a nice experience. I didn't like needing to be there by 8am on a couple of the days but that's because I hate morning.
Can't wait to meet my little sib this year!
