Well, I'm coming to the end of my application cycle, and I figured I'd share some information I would have wanted when I was applying last year. I remember thinking and worrying a lot about when I could expect things to start happening: when will I be verified? when will I start getting interview invites? etc. Well, here's a summary of my application cycle as a cumulative distribution function of application events. 30 Schools. AMCAS submitted on June 20th. I've heard back from every school as of this morning--all that's left is possible waitlist movement (none of which is included here).

This is just one applicant's experience, and your mileage may vary.

I guess I should add a bit of a summary--

As you can see, I was verified one month and six days after submitting my AMCAS. The first secondary invites started coming before I was verified, and continued for a month or so after. The rejections started coming first, in early August. These ones, before you've heard anything positive yet, are the toughest ones. Interview invites happened for the most part for the next two months, My two acceptances (yay!) happened very close to each other around the New Year, just under 6 months after submitting my application.

There's a ton of variance in the process, but I hope this can normalize the experience for anyone caught off guard by some early rejections or surprised by how long it can take for good things to happen.

Thank you for the data.

Thank you for the data and the added explanation was helpful. Would you mind if I asked why the rejections came early, if you have a guess.

This is a cool way of putting the data. In my experience the first rejections didn't happen until September but the interviews received in August totally made me not worry about them.

I do think you are a little preemptive saying your status is medical student though. I mean, you haven't even made it through orientation yet! But congrats nonetheless.
