IOWA - YOUR GAIN IS OUR LOSS
I really haven't start to think about this actively until recent times, but my wife and I will be packing up our things and moving to Iowa City in August. We might even buy a house!

Our move is probably comparatively shorter than many of you [only 90 minutes], but a move is a move, right?

Who's moving the farthest? Or if your a dependent, who's living far away from home?

All aboard,
=skp

Moving from Las Vegas to possible Worcester, MA or Chicago, IL.

Someone beat that (because I know there's some CA people doing the same thing... =) )

Yep. I had mine shipped from FL to San Diego a few years ago, and my trunk was full of my belongings. I didn't pack anything in the back seat because I didn't know how or where the moving truck took breaks, and I didn't want to risk people being able to see any of my stuff.

😉
yes your car can handle the snow weather if you do the right things like changing your tire ( don't fall for the "four seasons" tires deal it seems attractive.. .buy the real winter tires..it is safer when it snows for real!!!!)..use liquids adapted to the freezing temperature....I spend 6 years in Canada...so trust me your car can handle..it depend on you.

Your car should be able to handle the snow. Southern MI tends to do a good job plowing, better than here in WI anyways  Just be sure to buy a scraper/brush, keep some salt/kitty litter at home in case you can't get out of the ice on the driveway, sandbags for the back of your car if its a front wheel drive SUV or Truck and you should be more than fine 👍

🙄

staying in state, but still trying to decide if I should commute or not.

Same here. After commuting an hour each way to and from work for the past 7-1/2 years, I'm looking forward to that nice 10 second transit from my bedroom to my living room.

tires and salt? :scared: i have a lot to learn...

"in case you can't get out of the ice on the driveway" - huh?!! that happens?! hahaha...oh man...that's assuming i'll be able to get into my car in the first place - walking/slipping on the ice...in my california thongs (sandals). haha jk...

i'm so screwed. thanks for your advice!

Hah, yeah, I'm moving. WVUPharm2007 and I are moving a long distance to be closer to school. A whole half of a mile! Okay, so maybe we're really just moving because a one bedroom is way too cramped for either of our likings (I moved in with him after we had both signed/re-signed leases)... but our apartment is closer to the school than the parking lot is! Oooh, ooh, and no more 125 stair climb up the hill to get to class! That'll be pretty sweet.

The best part about our new apartment is that we have a balcony. That's good for two things... the first is outdoor cooking, of course. The second is that our balcony is directly over "the pit", AKA where the freshmen get drunk (lol, under police supervision) before football games. All I've got to say about that is IT'S SUPER SOAKER TIME. 😀 I think I might be the most excited about moving on here!

Oh, I guess I live far away from 'home' (6 hrs), but really, West Virginia is my home now. Eventually my family will figure out that I'm not coming back to Philadelphia...

I'm moving from Raleigh, NC to Chapel Hill, NC. 20 minutes drive 😀

So now that it's official, I'm moving from Las Vegas to Chicago.

1795 miles. =P

But I have some furniture I left in San Diego, so that's gonna travel 2125 miles.

I'm moving from CA to NY!! I am sooo excited about moving there. I'm planning to U-Haul everything there with my best friend and boyfriend (RoadTrip '05!) and see the rest of the U.S. along the way.

Chicago to Ann Arbor, Michigan - Not the furthest of moves, about 3.5 hrs.

I'll be living in Nevada...523 miles from San Jose...it'll be the first time that I have to be by myself and be very...very...far...from my family...gosh, I'm so used to being just a free-loader at home... 😀 I know I'll miss that very much... 😀
Note: 😛 Abilene still feels like a baby... 👎

I wouldnt use U-Haul if I were you, just about any other moving co. is better than them. I have heard many horror stories about them...mainly about the condition of their trucks and not getting them on time even though they were reserved in advance. I'm personally going with Penske. 😉

I know im a little biased cause my father works there, but ABF U-Pack is an awesome deal. They drop off the trailor, you pack it, they pick it up and drop it off in a few days at your new location. More expensive than U-Haul but you dont have to pay for gas and it is cheaper than movers
