I know I am; I can hardly wait. What is everyone doing to pass the time? I've been stuck without a job for a couple of weeks now due to my need to relocate for school, and I'm going crazy just sitting around contemplating what this next year has in store.

I start in a week. I'm just enjoying the last bit of my free time, listening to music, getting settled into my new house and city, playing guitar, watching a lot of Family Guy, and trying not to lose weight (yes, that last one is a struggle for me and my angry gut).

I'd actually agree with having this thread, if I was about to be an MS1 I'd like a thread that isn't 1300 pages of spam to chat about what's to come.

Good luck to all of you this year, c/o '16, remember you were picked for a reason. Everyone in your class is (and don't be shocked at being 'average') in this group.

Hope to be in your position in the coming year!

Haha! I remember seeing you in one of the school specific threads. You actually start classes in a week?

As strange as this may seem, I would start tomorrow if they'd let me. The anticipation is killing me, I just want to get the ball rolling already.

Which school?

I won't (hopefully) start for over a year and I'm already feeling the anticipation. I want to pre-study so bad, but I know relaxing is the way to go right now.

Enjoy your free time. It gets harder to come by the further along you go. Congrats and good luck.

Especially since 90% of that thread is spam about nonsense...

Agreed. And I only looked at the last few pages.

I'm not trying to rehash the frequently recurring SDN discussion about whether or not one should pre-study etc. before starting classes this Fall. Instead, I'm more interested in hearing about what my fellow MS0s are doing now, with less than a month to go before the start of classes.

Also, how are you feeling? What are your expectations for this coming year?

So you're hanging out, watching family guy, and eating a lot... i envy you.

Man, I don't believe its all happening. Im on my second to last clinical shift in the ED at the hospital tonight, and then freeeeedommm!!!

I gotta fly out to PA on August 1st...not looking to make that move all the way from the Pac NW...bleh.

Prefunk studying...hm. To be frank, I've just been doing a little bit of review on bones...I figure it might not be too bad simply because I anticipate it being busy and hecktic adjusting to a new place, etc etc. Might as well get some studying in just to feel a little more comfortable/at least in some part of my life while getting established there.

Pretty much "leisure studying," if that could even exist.

Just got back from a really fun trip and getting ready to start in just a few weeks! I can't believe how fast it is coming up after waiting so long!

I bet that within one week someone will post:

"So who's ready for winter break1?!"

Lol. I just checked out my schedule for biochemistry, and we have our first exam 10 days into the semester...

Also, our winter break ends on the 30th, with class starting back up on New Year's Eve!

That's messed up.

utsw?

 How'd you guess?

Edit: Now that I think about it, I guess the test so early on won't be such a bad thing. Once it's done, I'm sure it will feel nice to have one under our belts.

Laplace, are we going to be classmates?

Yup. Orientation starts Monday with a retreat to this place: https://www.artesianlakes.com/default.aspx

Seems pretty sweeeeeeeet.

BAYLOR!!! 😀 I'm very excited about it. This school seemed like the perfect fit for me ever since my interview day.

Wait, what?

I'm experiencing a bad flare-up of my chronic, upper GI problems. It's hard to eat, mang.

I'm working a bit and trying to get some medical stuff out of the way (go-go-gadget colonoscopy!). I'm also going through the process of buying a house. School doesn't start until the second week of August for me, so I hope to have a bunch of painting done by then and maybe even a rebuilt porch.

Also masturbating, hanging out with girlfriend, working out, catching up on TV shows (X-Files right now), petting cat repeatedly...

hitting the gym hard before school starts in a month

If I were you I'd probably do a quick overview of anatomy. Nothing too complex, but some light review of the different bones and muscles I am sure would be a good place to start.

No, do not do this. There are many better things to do with your time rather than pre-study, namely, everything.

I don't want to start at alllllll.. only 4.5 weeks left. Can't I just stay in lab forever? 🙁

Also - Laplace and JABWS - your exam schedule looks absolutely brutal. Thank God it's P/F, right?

I've heard this a thousand times, which means it's probably good advise. I actually do a lot of independent reading, but I'm trying to steer clear of anything even remotely related to medicine. It doesn't help though when most of what I read is nonfiction, and another 25% of that consists of medical memoirs.

As for looking over basic anatomy, I didn't take any kind of anatomy in college, so I'm expecting to have to put in a lot of hard work initially in medical school. However, based upon the fact that anatomy isn't a prerequisite course, I'm assuming that it will be possible for me to survive without doing any sort of pre-studying.

I'm looking forward to checking out NY Med tonight. Hopefully we've seen all we're going to see of Dr. Oz.

It's P/F the first semester, then we move to a traditional letter grade system...

Not a bad idea.

I didn't have any anatomy experience either and was pretty concerned, so I picked up a deck of the Netter's flashcards and would look them over while working out. It was a complete waste of time. Part of the problem is you have no idea what's important, and another part of the problem is that learning these structures in the abstract can be difficult. Looking at stuff in a cadaver makes a big difference IMO.

Anyways, back to your pre-MS1 excitement. 😎
