The consensus seems to be that people understand applicants are busy, and won't hold it against you if you don't make it to a pre-interview social event. Anyone ever had an experience that contradicts this?
I have a lower priority interview Wednesday, and an interview Thursday (with social event Wednesday night) at a program I'm very excited about. I'm tempted to cancel the Wednesday interview (tried to re-schedule, no dice) unless I'm pretty convinced missing the social event really won't make a difference.
I'm sure I'm not the only one making these choices...
and thanks!
