Hello Everyone!

I have to argue the use of Sodium Fluoride in toothpaste. Although it is widely used toothpaste, it is also found in our water and other products that we use daily. Sodium Fluoride does an excellent job at cavity protection, but I am wondering how come it is so readily used today when studies have found that it can result in osteosarcoma cancer.

I am thinking that toothpaste contains very little sodium fluoride and that is why the risk is low. But with the use of other products, I bet that many people today do get more than the daily recommended (or pretty close to). Can anyone tell me how much Sodium fluoride is found in toothpaste? and also, can someone tell me what Sodium Fluoride 0.243% w/w means? what is this in parts per million?

Thanks.

On the one hand, you have a coterie of scare-mongering idiots trying to exploit public fear and ignorance by spreading a bunch of factually inaccurate voodoo crap about fluoride. On the other, you have the CDC extolling public water fluoridation as one of the ten greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. I don't know about you, but I know which one of those two *I* believe over the other. 😉

Also, most over-the-counter toothpastes contain approximately 1100ppm fluoride. Prescription toothpastes range up to about 5000ppm.

If I were you, I'd be more worried about possibly overdosing on lidocaine than flouride. For your next restoration demand no anesthesia.

What is this toothpaste stuff I keep hearing about?

There's a real danger in excessive fluoride exposure. And most times, parents are lulled into complacency when choosing fruity-flavored toothpastes for your kids. Here's an article about fluoride danger in children's toothpaste.

If you've got a niece or nephew you care about, spend a few minutes to educate their guardians about fluoride.
