Hey,

I seem to suck at solubility... knowing what is soluble and what isn't.
Can anybody break it down into simple terms besides "like dissolves like". That doesn't really seem to help me. Thanks!!!

u mean like whats solube?
i believe...
NH3 (ammonia) S03 compounds and alkali metal salts
bromium cloride and iodo compounds too
are soluble in water
ofcourse they are exceptions with Ca Sr Be ions but i dont think the mcat is nit picky
i seem to only encounter alkali metal solubility Qs and knowing most hydroxides are insoluble has gotten me by pretty good (anyone feel free to correct me)
my issue is when they give me a Ksp and ask me how many ions are dissolved...owww 🙁

It has to do with polarity.

Polar compounds dissolve in polar solvents and non-polar compounds dissolve in non-polar solvents. Think salad dressing and the seperation. This is important with TLC and extraction.
