5 . Which of the following would be most soluble in water?
A) CCl4 B) znCl 2 C) AICl 3 D) MgCl2

please explain

Water is polar, so it will dissolve in polar & ionic solvent, answer should be D.
Both CCl4 & AlCl3 are covalent. ZnCl2 & MgCl2 are polar and ionic, Mg is alkaline earth metal and Zn is transition metal, so Mg has greater electronegativity difference with Cl (halogen on far right), thats why its more ionic than ZnCl2.
