It depends on where you will eventually apply to med school. Some schools accept AP credit toward prerequisites and others don't. Some will accept it provided you take additional upper-level classes in the same discipline. You would need to check websites of, at the least, your state schools, where you are highly likely to apply. But since you can't predict your application GPA or MCAT score, you won't know how selective the schools should be on your target list, and what their requirements will be for math in future years. If I have a 5 on both AP calc AB and AP statistics, can I take the credit my undergraduate institution offers for these classes and use it to fulfill my pre med requirements? Essentially, can i use my ap math courses to not take any math course during pre med? Or should i just retake both in undergrad to play it safe?
yes.So the only math course he is taking during undergrad is biostat?
I don't think getting A in Calc is easy in most colleges since it's a weedout class for engineering. My son didn't want to take any chance even thought he had A in all his math classes in HS and got 5s in AP. He had to work hard to get As in his competitive HS.I hate to be cynical but I will be. One of the most important things for med admission is your GPA. If you are really good in math and you expect that repeating Calc I would be an easy A, take the course! If you are not a strong math student, it is unlikely you'd have done well on the AP courses and would be asking this question. You are weighing this slight GPA padding against saving some tuition money but you could end up spending that money later to repair a lackluster GPA that would have benefited from some A's early on.
What I heard is better to take some stats course in college and some med schools may view biostats favorably. I am no expert though. So could i take credit for calc ab and stat and would that fulfill the pre med req for one year of mathematics? Or would i have to take calc 2 and something else
