I missed a day of my rotation because I sprained my ankle and i didnt think I would be able to work on it because at the site where i am rotating i have to do a lot of walking. I sprained it the night before and i thought it would feel better in the morning but when i woke up i couldnt put any weight on it so i called the clerkship admin at the site left a msg letting her know. At first i was gonna go see a doc but long story short i ended up deciding to just rest the ankle as ive done every other time i sprain it (which happens a lot). Later on that day i got an email from the clerkship admin saying she wanted a doctors note. In my mind I think shes asking for one because she doesnt believe me i.e. thinks i tried to scheme a day off. My question is should i tell her the truth, that i dont usually go to a doctor for a sprained ankle (which might only heighten her suspicions) or should i just go to the doctor now and get a note? My worry is that the clerkship director might put a note in my final evaluation that would make it onto the MSPE.

Being unable to bear weight on an injured ankle is a criterion for obtaining an xray according to the Ottawa ankle rules.

Also, don't worry, as a med student, you weren't missed.
