Hey guys.
So my MCAT scores aren't so hot and I decided to wait until next year and reapply.

My question is: Should I just not fill out secondaries, or should I officially withdraw my primary application?

And in regards to my personal statement: Is is ok to use the same one next year? I really think it portrays me very well and until now have to urge to change it...

Thanks!

Since you haven't sent back your secondaries, the adcoms probably haven't even read your essay yet, so if you like it, use it again next year.🙂

Good luck reapplying, but here's my advice: unless you got below a 26 or so, send in the secondaries for your state schools or the least competitive ones on your list. Don't waste too much money, just send it out to 3 or 4 schools. You never know with this process, and if your application is strong otherwise, you might get in!

Good luck!!!

Well, I got a 26. I really want to go to BU; I am getting my PhD at BU Med and I already took a lot of the medical school classes and did fine.

Thing is, the average MCAT for matriculants at BU is a 29. And I am not sure if I will be able to defend my thesis by May '04. So I feel uncomfortable applying with sub-par scores, knowing that I'll probably have to defer entry...

Thanks for your advice!

Now that I have a better understanding of your situation, I say definetly apply to BU now. The fact that you're doing a PhD at BU already and have taken med classes there will be a big plus!! Worst case scenario, you don't get in, so you re-take the MCAT in August or April 2004, and you apply again. But I think that you have a good shot - good luck!!

I suggest retaking the MCAT in August. You could just defend your thesis in June/July, which gives you 3 more months.

DEFINITELY APPLY! You have a PhD from the school, they know you personally. Your PI should be able to write a super letter for you. If their AVERAGE is a 29 their range has to be anywhere from a 25, 26 to the mid 30s. You can retake it in August and then add it to your application later as an update, which will make them evaluate you again if you haven't gotten an interview by then. Considering that this year's process isn't over yet, I think you have a great shot to be interviewed and looked at by BU even with your MCAT score, which isn't really that bad. Good luck to you!

If you are sure BU is your top choice, apply ONLY to BU this year (don't send in anyone else's secondaries). You might get in, and if not, you can apply with a stronger app next year.
