Hi:
I'm a US grad with pretty good Step 1 scores, who failed CS.
(I know I'm a *******)
Any thoughts on whether programs require updated USMLE transcrpits before February rankings are due? Does it come up interviews? Has any run into this little problem?

Thanks,
CR

As long as you didn't set your ERAS application to automatically send new USMLE results to programs, I don't think this will come up on interviews or before ranking. It will just be important to pass CS before starting internship. Do you know when you can take it again?

Thanks - so far no one has asked on the interviews
I registered to take it again as soon as I found out that I failed it - in February.

no problem 🙂 I don't think it will come up as many people don't even get their results before matching. As long as you have scheduled to take it again in Feb before you start internship I think you are fine.

Does your school require you to pass the CS in order to graduate? If so and you do not provide the score, I would suspect most programs will down rank you since they are not guaranteed that you will be there on July 1.

My school does require that I record a passing score before April, which I plan to do by retaking CS in February; I will not have the results back in time for the match though.

Thanks

Hello, sorry you have to deal with this - but can I ask what happened during the CS? Did you feel good after taking it? I just recently took the exam and felt pretty awful about it - perhaps you might pass some insight onto what they wanted you to improve on?

In retrospect I realized I was rushing through each station and I was asking multiple questions in one sentence (as in "Have you had nausea, vomiting or diarrhea?") This is something that all CS prep material specifically instructs not to do. As a result of this, I was out of each room with 4-5min to spare.

Given that it is required for graduation, you might consider calling some of the PDs and telling them what you plan to do in order to make sure that you will successfully pass the exam.
