That not just an award, it's a major award

It is strange to me that they call these things "Award Letters"...
It's basically telling me I can take out a lot of loans! Gee thanks!

:d

Nooo doubt! They should call them "Letters of Debt of Unusual and Woeful Proportion." :hardy:

If you take out less than the amount they award you but then find out later you need more...can you take more out like mid semester or something?

On the other hand, it's good that banks will loan us this money. Otherwise, most of us wouldn't be going to med school.

As usual toothless is thinking like me. 😱
This was all I meant in the original post - this misuse of the word "AWARD"!!

Absolutely! I just wish they'd give it the right name - award sounds like - you know - something to celebrate!

The suspense......Drink your OVALTINE!!!!!!!!!!

So in this situation how long does it take to get the remainder? I'm thinking of taking out less than I got awarded but I'd be nervous if I had an emergency or something would it take weeks? How does someone go about doing that? Thanks 🙂

Often if you apply for additional financial aid during the year then it is split accordingly based on the remaining fianancial aid disbursement times.

For instance, at PCOM we get our loans in 3 parts, at the beginning of each trimester.

If I apply for $6,000 additional and we are in the 1st trimester, I get $2,000 immediately and the other $4,000 is split between the other 2 disbursement dates.

If I apply for $6,000 in the 2nd trimester I get $3,000 immediately and the other $3,000 comes at the last disbursement.

Needless to say you should get SOME money immediately, if not all. I suppose it would depend on the policy of your schools FA department. Where are you going next year?
