hey everyone, I'm new to this board. I just have a few questions since reliable information regarding international dentist training in the US seems rather patchy at best and it would be helpful to hear from those who've gone through this process before.
i'm currently a freshman enrolled at West China college of stomatology (Huaxi), when's the most suitable time for me to take my part1 & part2 exams, and to start my applications in earnest? Is it at all possible to be admitted into a US foreign dental training program straight after my graduation, without longtime work experience? and finally, any possiblities that schools consider legacy? (my mom attended to NYU dental)😛

and just out of curiosity, is anyone on this forum a Huaxi alumnus?

im not familiar with the programmes in China but will give this a shot...
u can give ur part 1 once u have completed ur basic sciences courses...in my home country that was after the 2 nd year.
most universities require that u have a foreign degree so u may have to complete ur programme in Huaxi to apply...however, try calling up schools and ask them if they'll let u apply after ur part1 itself...who knows, some uni may let u do that.

things are prety dynamic now and the situation may be completely different, in say 4 yrs time... it will definately still be tough. but criteria as we know it now may change drastically. we are expecting every school to have its own written exam as well from 2012 onwards, when ADA stops giving percentages on the part1&2.

From what i know, lineage does play a role. I have seen Upenn mention lineage relations in class photos and white coat ceremonies.. it will be to ur advantage.

for now, focus on ur current programme and give it ur best...get a good gpa and keep dropping by here to check on latest developments.

god bless and good luck!
