Hello

I know people here say it's good to have an upwards trend, but recently i've been on a slump. I ended my freshmen year with a 4.0. At the end of my sophomore year I had a 3.9. Now my junior year is about to end with around an overall GPA of 3.75. I've been putting in more effort in classes but some of them are simply too hard to make an A. Would medical schools see this as being lazy and completely ruin my chances?

Also, this semester, I may make my first C. It's in Histology and it's just simply a hard class. The class average for every test is always around a 50-60 and the professor refuses to scale because he doesn't believe in it. Any advice on how to take a C?

Ummmm...study more?

^^ I think he means how to deal with it.

I've made 2 C's in my entire college career. Both broke my heart but they both motivated me to do better next time. Look at what you did right and mimic that; look at what you did wrong and get rid of those habits.

There are times when we just get those "C's". Doesn't mean there's something wrong with us, especially if the class average is 50-60. You've probably have done everything possible for help...looked online, picked up other texts to try and help. C's happen.

IMHO: I'd take the "C" and move on. You're doing quite well otherwise! Please forgive me for sounding cliche...remember the Karate Kid movie (first one)..."No such thing as bad student, only bad teacher". There you go. 😉

I've already accepted a possible C but i'll go down fighting for that B. But what about the downward trend?

Are you taking a gap year? If you are, make sure those senior year grades are back up. Otherwise, it shouldn't be too big of a deal, considering it's not a huge drop and 3.75 is still pretty good. With harder classes and greater load, I wouldn't be too worried about your GPA.

Weird that your histology professor doesn't curve up though... Is he planning on failing half the class? 😵

I'm in a similar situation. thankfully after this semester i think it will be all down hill, relatively speaking. Like said above, although it might be a top factor in your admissions, it's not the ONLY factor.

Fight hard, never quit.

I do not plan on taking a gap year but If i do not get accepted, then I will probably work while focusing on more volunteering so I plan to end senior year with a bang.

And yes, historically people fail his class often
