Some help please- Personal Statement

I know there are many other threads about this already on the forum, but I wanted this to be seen by a lot of people and if I posted on a previous thrad, I wasn't sure if anyone would read it or not.

Could someone read over my first "attempt" of writing my personal statement. My writing skills are terrible and my lack of vocabulary does not help anything, and I am quite embarrassed by any of my writing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you would be willing to help please PM me, and I will send it.

i made the mistake of asking too many people to read my personal statement and they all gave different opinions. i got really confused to who to listen to.

I would say to get at least 2 people to look at your PS, anymore and it has the potential to be confusing. The first person should be a good writer (like a professor, an english major) and check for grammar and such. The second should be someone who knows more about dentistry (a dentist, SDNer, etc.) and can tell you what doesn't work in terms of content. Take both of their comments and throw out what doesn't work. This is what I'm doing and I think it's going fairly well.

Find someone you can trust that understands how to write something like a personal statement. My corporate lawyer cousin did mine and worked wonders. She took all my chicken scratch and made it look presentable without changing the meaning.

I think that it helped that she knows me decently well enough to know at least what I was trying to say, and well... she is really good at making things sound more appealing without going over your head, haha. I would have also trusted my Technical Writing prof to have looked over it, after all, you are writing to an audience and that's what they do best.
