hey all

i was just wondering if there were any guys out there who have struggled with depression.....girls are welcome to post as well please(its just that i always hear of only women who have depression) and are in medical school or practicing. I am being treated for it now which was a huge step for me but i needed to face the reality of it and not hide it. The medications dont seem to help me all that much and ive convinced myself that its gonna get worse and never get better(and have now become obsessive about that). I keep asking my self why do they seenm to work for everyone else so greatly (herd people call them wonder drugs) and not me. Fortunatly i have lots of family support

any support or comments would be greatly app.

Why is this thread in every forum? Even when on meds, you have to "try" to not be depressed.

If you really are depressed, I hope you get the support you need. However, I think I smell a troll.

Sorry, I can't offer any advice from personal experience. However, i hope everything works out for you :luck:

hi there,

i can tell you from experience that a) it can take antidepressants some time to work (~6 weeks) and b) that you may have to experiement with single or multiple drugs before you find the right ones for you.

also, time will bring change for the better. you may not feel like it now, but give yourself a few months and i promise your outlook will be different. i have a close male friend who went through a serious depression recently. i kept telling him that things would change if he just hung in there and did all the stuff one should do: take meds, get therapy, exercise... he never really believed me at the time, but the other day he told me that i was right--he is feeling much better now.

i'm sorry you're depressed, and hope you can hang in there until you feel better again.

My psych prof is admantly anti-anti-depressions. According to the literature, the "cure" rate of anti-depressants was only 2%points better than the placebo. He is a psychoanalysis (hence the anti-depression stance), and argues psychotherapy is the best option, esoecially given the lack of medication side-effects and long-term tolerance. If you can figure out what triggers your depression episodes (e.g. boredom, stress, failure), you are more likely able to reduce the impact and length of an episode. You might also want to look for a support group.

Just my 2cents

this should help a lot
