Some match lists I found and a nice guide

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
good site! FYI, Tufts came out with its match list for the class of 2003 and it was quite good.. Here's how it compares to the Match List posted on the website:

Pediatrics: bit of a disappointment this year, with no matches at JHU, Boston Children's, or CHOP, but otherwise decent and comparable to that posted.
Med-Peds:no matches this year
Diagnostic Radiology-outstanding this year, with matches at Cleveland Clinic, Sinai, BID, and Rochester, among others.
Emergency Medicine: superior this year, with several matching at Yale-New Haven
Internal Medicine: almost exactly identical to that posted, a few more matches at Beth Israel and Yale this year however.
Family Medicine-only 3 or 4 people this year, at least 1 went to Dartmouth Family Practice in Concord, NH.

well, I don't have the list in front of me but can get another copy tomorrow if anyone is interested in any of the other specialities.

nice site, thanks! 🙂

The matchlist info is useful! do you know what year these match lists are friom?

do you know what year these matchlists are from?

I was trying to figure that out also. From what I can tell some are from 2002 and others are from 2001. Haven't looked at all of them yet. Does anyone know where to find some matches from more cali and tx schools?

I was wondering the same thing- Mt. Sinai is listed as being associated with CUNY, which it hasn't been for some time.

thanx for the link! pretty cool site.

Hmmm...almost 700 views and only 5 replies excluding me. People must have looked at this and found it helpful and didn't reply or looked at it and were utterly disgusted and didn't reply. Hopefully they were in the first camp so I'll give it a bump for the part time weekend sdners. If I am wrong I'll let you punch me in the face.

no, no the site is quite good.. I think a lot of ppl just don't know exactly what to say since it's hard for people (self included) who aren't going through the match process to make constructive comments or ask questions. actually as a med student I will comment on one thing; geography is a big factor in these match lists. For example, EVMS sent a lot of people in-state and to the south, while Tufts usually sends a lot of people to sites in MA, CA, NY, and CT b/c the majority of students there are from those states. So that might be something for people to consider in choosing a school.. However, if you have a solid application, I don't think going to (for example) a small state school in the Midwest will preclude your chances of getting a residency at MGH if you really want to move to Boston.

anyone tried to open the docs and see a bunch of weird characters?

Looking at a school's match list is probably a waste of time. Especially if you only look at 1 or 2 years. The sample sizes are just too small. If you look at a list for say pediatrics and see that no one went to Boston children's or CHOP or whatever it may be that no one from that class wanted to go to those places, or ranked other less prestigious programs higher because of location or whatnot. Or maybe the people going into pediatrics from that year at that school were just dopes and wouldn't have gotten a good program no matter what school they were from.

Also what sounds prestigious may not necessarily be the case for certain fields, for example in PM&R NJMS is much more highly regarded than Harvard or Columbia, or in ER UNC is much better than Duke.

I guess my point is that your chances of matching somewhere are almost exclusively determined by your own work and not by your medical school.

True, although knowing firsthand that many Tufts students in all fields are concerned with prestige and that a decent proportion of students are from Massachusetts or the Boston area by state mandate (yes, TUSM gets state funding), I did find it a bit surprising that no one matched at Boston Children's or CHOP. Also, when I said that geography was a big deal, I believe that is almost 100% determined by where people choose to interview, match, etc., more than what school you go to. People choose the programs they want to match at for various reasons like proximity to family, prestige, impressions on their interview day, etc.; sound familiar anyone?😉

Agreed, but were these types of comparisons directly made on this thread?? i must have missed it..

yes, and pretty much everyone in the US MD schools matches somewhere, and if they don't they can always "scramble". The one person I know who didn't match in Radiation Oncology coming out of Maryland med would have been a fine candidate with no trouble getting a residency in something less competitive.. In fact, he ended up getting a prelim year in IM at Maryland and got a place at EVMS for rad.onc. without having to reapply. Come to think of it, his scores on USMLE I and II were around the national average and his pre-clinical grades were fine but not spectacular. point there is that there is definitely hope for those of us who didn't Honor everything and/or score in the 99th percentile on USMLE I. just keep your head up and try your best and things will work out in the end (KOW🙂)

How current are these match lists? At least some of them seem sorta outdated...

I though the site was good - thanks. It is interesting to see where they all go...
