Hi..

I am a DO student..having applied to some of the MD Internal medicine residencies..have got some interviews..how important is it to take the USMLE CS before the programs prepare the rank list..Overall I'm a good candidate having taken both USMLE 1&2..COMLEX 1&2..good scores above 90s on all four..

Now..my COMLEX PE is scheduled in November..but I was told by someone that if I want a good chance at matching at a top program..I need to have the results for the CS back by February( before the programs prepare their rank lists )..but there are no available dates until March..

if I can just have my COMLEX PE back by then would it suffice.or.otherwise I'm all stranded..???

If you're not going to be able to take Step 2 CS (and have the results back) before the rank list is due, no sense worrying about it, right? Nothing you can do about it now.

My understanding is that Step 2CS is an important component for the programs to match you. My suggestion would be try to prepare for Step 2 CS and there are spots that open up on a daily basis, meaning there might be spots available this week. You just have to be prepared and flexible and log in a few times a day to see if spots open up.

I disagree. I can't imagine that wasting $1000 (or whatever they charge) to take USMLE 2 CS would be helpful. You'll take the COMLEX PE exam, and that should get you a training license, and somewhere along the line you'll need to complete one whole exam series (presumably COMLEX).

I can only speak for myself, but that's how I see it.

Thanks aPD..!! for the advice..appreciate it..will do as you say!!!
