Long time lurker, first post ever. Sorry if this needs to go too WAMC but since I'm not applying this cycle I thought that would be inappropriate.
Anyway, reviewing my transcript has been a little discouraging by the amount of B's in the Pre-med core. I don't have any failing grades but quite a few B's and a B- in Organic Chem I. I feel like this shouldn't be a big deal but combined with B+'s/A-'s my science GPA is closer to a little less than a 3.4, which is weak. I only have two actual A's in premed core, and they occurred in the same year. I'm not finished with school but I doubt I can grab enough A's in the Pre-med core to pull my BPCM to a 3.6ish to be competitive for MD schools. (I only have physics left)
Some questions, I don't want this to turn into a pitty or scold thread...
Is a 3.5 sGPA competitive for MD school?
Is a large gap (~0.2 points about) between normal GPA and sGPA bad? (I also have a History Major in addition to Bio)
Do non-Pre Med core classes that are sciences (Ecology, environmental sciences) count towards BPCM? If they technically do, how do adcoms generally feel about these classes?
