I am currently applying to medical schools and have very competitive credentials. I wonder how important the name of my medical school will be when applying to residency programs. Can someone help me?

Seeing as you haven't gotten in anywhere yet, this should probably be the least of your concerns right now.

But to answer your question, your performance in med school, particularly during the clinical years, is more important than which school you go to. Go to the best school you can get into (and afford), and do the best you can when you get there.

probably not very important unless you're in a top 10 school. where you go for residency depends much more on how your perfrom on the boards and in the wards than where you went to school.

don't worry about it. you're not going to be applying to any residency if you're not in school.

the best med school is the one that admits you.

The name of your med school is probably the most important thing when applying for residency programs. If you did not graduate from Harvard Med school, then you will never ever be able to become an excellent physician, you will end up in Bumville Nebraska in a family practice residency (if you are lucky). Board scores, grades, interviews, and performance evaluations during your clinical rotations bear little influence on how a program ranks you. So keep that in mind: it's top ten or bust!

You sound like a real tool, so keep it up. I'm sure you'll end up doing great during the application season; adcoms love arrogance!!

I think the best rule of thumb is how many of the top undergraduate universities can you name in order of rank. I think I could start from one and get as far as number five, without making a mistake. For The top five med schools, the name will probably matter. Past that everyone in the top tier is about the same.

that's really uncalled for. it's a legit question that gets asked all the time.

Just remember that according to the Callogician medical school rankings, Drexel University College of medicine is the best medical school in the universe.

Silas 2642 that was too funny. You made me spit up my vodka and cranberry.

It's a legit question, but it's usually asked in more modest terms, and also asked later on in the process, when the applicant is trying to pick a school to go to. I definitely question what the OP is trying to get at.
