Ok so I was out with some girls last night, and one of them by chance has a sister that just up and quit medical school. I know she was telling the truth because I have met this particular girl before; I just did not ask her anything specific about why she quit because I figured it was personal. So after I discovered that one of the girls i was with was the sister to the med school drop out, I asked her why she quit. She said:
"First off, my sister graduated with a 3.89 gpa and had a 27 on the MCAT. She said all the student were perscribed aderol (unsure about the spelling) so they could stay awake and focus, and sleeping pills so they could actually sleep when they needed it. She said it was the only way to get all the work done and she cound not handle it anymore". She also said the the students had to see a therapist once a week....no exception.
I knew medical school was rough but good God, I didn't think you would have to take pills just to get your work done!!
She also went on to say that since I'm a white male I would need around a 3.8-4.0 to get in, because white males are over represented. I have a 3.47 so I'm a little concerned. BTW the school I'm talking about is LSU School of Medicine Sheveport. I really don't know if what here sister was saying was true because I figured she might have been making excuses for not finishing, and although there could have been some grain of truth to what she was saying, I think it might have been mildly exagerated. I told her that the average GPA for this school was a 3.6 but she said that since I'm a white male I would have to surpass that mark. I hope she's wrong, and that's why I'm asking you guys. I'm going to post this in the Allopathic med student forum as well, because I think it would be helpful for me to get the POV of some actual current med students as well.
Thanks to all that respond!
