Someone Tell Me Where does it say Primary and Secondary?

Sorry if someone made a thread about this, but google didn't find the thread about primaries and secondaries. What is a primary and a secondary? I tried to find details about primaries and to no avail I resorted to check out an application of Columbia's Physician and Surgeon site. So I read the instructions and it assumes that I know what a primary is... Contrary to that belief, I don't know what it is! I'm a sophomore and I should know by now, but due to a lack of online surfing and sources I discovered SDN late and hopefully I'll be forgiven for my ignorance. Thanks!

"Primary" just refers to the AMCAS application, the standard application from the AAMC. And "secondary" refers to the individual school applications, which supplement the AMCAS. The AMCAS has all the school and course info, extracurricular activities and awards, and a personal statement. Secondaries vary according to school; you can check the link that's a "sticky" at the top of the forum page that lists secondary essay prompts for more info.
