I recently received a phone call from an admissions officer at a certain school for an invitation to an interview this cycle. Ordinarily? Awesome. However, I didn't actually apply to this school this cycle... I did interview there last cycle, but when it came time to apply again this year, I just wasn't comfortable with what the school was offering relative to other schools I'd been to, so I left them off the list.

I'm slated to interview at 7 schools before December 1st THIS cycle, so I guess my question goes as follows: is it worth interviewing at another school if I really wasn't comfortable with it the first time around? I just know that if I didn't get into any of the 7 schools I interviewed at and I passed up a perfectly good pre-December interview opportunity at another school, well, I'd be finding something tall to jump off of...

You have 7 pre-December 1st interviews... and you're wondering if you should go to an interview at a school you didn't even apply to...

You know you're a rock star applicant when schools that you didn't even apply to are calling you up and offering you an interview. haha that is awesome. Seriously though, if it's a school you wouldn't actually want to go to I just wouldn't go. Seven is a pretty dang solid number of interviews.

It all depends on if the school is easy to travel to. And how do you know you're not comfortable with it? SDN rumors or a trip to campus?

Yeah I probably wouldn't go either in this situation. If you already interviewed there and didn't like it enough to even bother applying again this cycle it seems like a waste of money/time.

If you can't get one acceptance with seven interviews, then :slap: It sounds like it'd be a waste of time to go. With that said, I've got a school like that which I'm not really interested in attending, but it's 20 minutes from my home. So, if I do get an interview, I may still go just to boost my chances of getting in somewhere this year. After all, if that school you don't like happens to be the only one that accepts you, I'm willing to bet that your perception of it will change drastically. But, if I had to spend $5-800 to interview at this school, and having had 4 excellent interviews already and 1 planned at Case in Feb (who accepts a huge percentage of interviewees), I don't believe I'd go. With 7 interviews, if I felt good about all of them, you can bet I definitely wouldn't go.

Use your gut, with a little common sense. It doesn't sound like this decision is very crucial either way.

One thing i just thought of is if they really want you and called you up for an interview. Then potentially they might be wanting to offer you a scholarship pending acceptance.

Why on earth did nobody ask the relevant question yet: WHAT SCHOOL IS THIS?

I'd go. It's a great experience. 🙂 And not to scare you on purpose, but you'll never know if it's the only school that accepts you (hopefully this is not the case!).
