hey guys...

just curious, schools like GW, BU, and Drexel claim to get around 10k applicants every year and I was just wondering how many of those 10k, you think actually follow through and complete secondaries n such.

B/c if it was straight 13,000 for a class of ~150, that's an acceptance rate of 1.15%.

So to get into these schools, you have be in the top 99% of applicants? Why do I not buy this?

I know Tulane's website states that only about 67% of those who submitted a primary complete their application.

Yeah...alot of people end not sending in secondaries for these schools...so basically a file is opened for them but no secondary (or some other part of their application) is never submitted.

I believe Georgetown also states the diff btwn completed applications and apps received

It's not like every school with a 2% acceptance rate gets the top 2% of applicants. Most applicants apply to a lot of places, which inflates the number of applicants at each school dramatically. The top 2% of applicants overall probably matriculate somewhere else.

of the 10,000, no more and 5-6k will send in the secondary, so they're not any different than any other med school.

gtown's secondary states their actual numbers:

"In 2006-2007, the School of Medicine received 10,643 AMCAS applications. Of the 5,810 completed applications, 1,239 individuals were interviewed to seat a class of 190 students."

You're also mistaking acceptances with actual matriculants

You forgot yield. To enroll a class of 150, GWU has to accept 450 applicants.

I always wondered this too. Thats a big reason i always wonder about med school admittance. I always read how 10,000 apply for 100 spots too =[. How many actually get accepted as compared to how many actually are matriculated there? is it like 300? more/

I think no more than 3x number of spots. That number scales down for better schools.
