My name is Chase. I have a 11 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever who is overall fairly healthy. He has recently developed a lump of skin or a tag of skin (shown below) it measures approximately a half inch long and a half inch wide and is attached just above his left hip with the base being about a quarter inch in circumference. He has been chewing on it lately trying to bite it off which I have stopped him from doing. I do not get paid until Friday and will take him to the vet then but was wondering if anyone could give me a clue as to what this may be. He does not have any symptoms other than not liking it being there, he is still very active and has a hearty appetite. Any information on what you think it may be, or any advice on what I should do about it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Good luck with you studies and practice.

Asking for medical advice?:nono:

1. CALL YOUR VET - if for some reason this is a true emergency, the people on the other end of the phone should be able to ask the right questions and tell you if its safe to wait a day or two or three before coming in.
2. Your question is against SDN policy
3. Most of us are not even qualified to even think about answering your question.
4. Diagnoses cannot be made via the internet.
5. Treatments certainly cannot be made via the internet.

AND the sooner you call your vet the sooner you can get an appt. If you can't go till Friday and you call today, you have a better shot of actually being able to fit a trip to the vet in on Friday (rather than waiting until saturday, or monday... or next year).

PS - you might want to purchase an e-collar (cone, lampshade, what-have you) at the pet store to keep him from licking at it.

Sorry for the inconvenience I was unaware of the policy for this message board I was merely trying to get an answer as soon as possible as my usual vet is unavailable today. Again, I apologize but would like to thank you for a timely response.

Thank you.

- - Chase.
