At the begining of the LECOM Postbac program of 2004 student affairs told everyone that there would be a seat for them as long as everyone maintained a 3.0 or above gpa. Those who could not maintain the gpa were asked to leave after the first semester. Those who stayed were interviewed. For some strange reason all of the minorities in the program were waitlisted except for 2 and there were a total of 18! I know that at least 11 of these students gpa's were WELL over 3.0. There were some non-minority students who came back to the program and got in with gpa's under 2.7!!!! Student affairs started to dig back into students files and talk about mcats and past grades which they said they would not do. They would not even accept these students when lecom bradenton only had 50 people! Till this day there are still students on the waitlist from the postbac. Something is truly fishy about this school. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced any "WEIRD" situtations here.

LECOM Class of 2008

I heard the exact samething happened last year as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's true. But, there are conspiracy theories abound at LECOM so it's often hard to tell fact from fiction.

What are some of these conspiracy theories? Just curious because I was so close to attending there as well

You brought this subject up in the post-bacc forum...no need to bring it up again on a different forum.

Anyway, I was told that you are guaranteed an INTERVIEW and not an acceptance. I believe the post baccs just assume that they are automatically in if they do well.

Everyone knows that post-bacc programs don't guarantee acceptances. Stop being bitter.

Did anyone pay attention to my post?
I said that Lecom is unfair to minority students. Non-minority students are getting in with crappy GPA's while deserving minority students are being waitlisted.

This is getting ridiculous. Stop being bitter and bringing up minorities and their acceptances. Obviously they didn't like something about the students regardless of their race) who are waitlisted. Newsflash: Med school is more than just your GPA.

I'm a minority...i think (south asian).....and i got accepted there with no problem

The other side to racism is Non-acceptance and naivety!!!!!!!!!!!
I am specifically talking about students in the postbac and underrepresented minorities.

Would you mind posting your stats if you don't mind?

Trulyblessed1, i noticed you put LECOM class of 2008 underneath your post, I was wondering if you got off the waitlist and got in??

I truly hope that racism is not an issue and that the LECOM Bradenton class will have a grand spectrum of diversity. I would like to see the stats of all the post bacc program acceptees vs. non-acceptees. Hopefully, you have ALL this information to make such a claim. However, once school starts I'll keep my eye on this issue. Visit (nicedream) 's homepage. We seem to have a growing group of minority students. Moreso, my to-be-roommate is hispanic.

south asian is not under-represented. so you wouldn't be considered.

...all asians (north, south, east, or west) are not considered minorities in the medical field...

Pacific Islanders are considered minorities. If you are from places such as thailand, cambodia, vietnam, etc.... you are considered Pacific Islanders as well and not just south asians.

I use to work w/ administrations at SUNY Binghamton and part of many student organizations in relation to what is considered minorities and what isn't.

If you are Chinese or from any part of China, hongkong, taiwan, etc... you are NOT considered minority.

...never heard of southeast asians (thai, cambodian, hmong...) being grouped as pacific islanders... you need to recheck your data on that......

Are you asking me to recheck or you are telling me that its not? I am pretty sure that my information is correct because thats what my undergrad school would consider it. Perhaps it is different from school to school. In the past, I would file for applications and such for various jobs, internships, etc. I have asked the coordinators of those places to specify what I am because being "chinese" is not on the list, but only "asian" which includes TONS of people.

I was told on many different accounts to put myself as pacific islander and the same reason I told you is the same reason many people told me. So I think you should check to see if I am right or wrong. Thank you.

since when was thailand cambodia etc considered islands? I never heard of that before. I'm Thai and I put Asian.

...sia_simba... you are talking about undergrad... in medical school, if you look asian.. u mark asian and are not a minority... hell we all look alike anyway..... so there's really no point in arguing...
